  • Patent number: 5877420
Abstract: An apparatus and method for balancing a combined assembly of a driveshaft and axle. The apparatus includes a fixture for supporting the driveshaft and axle assembly in vehicle position. The rear axle is supported using the attachments where the axle is mounted to the motor vehicle. The assembly is rotated and a sensor detects vibrations. An imbalance calculator determines a weight to be added to the driveline to correct the imbalance.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 17, 1997
Date of Patent: March 2, 1999
    Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, Inc.
Inventors: Mohammad A. Moradi, Michael D. Rossman, Larry LaBell
  • Patent number: 5767403
Abstract: A driveline assembly and method for balancing the driveline. The driveline includes a drive shaft assembled to a rear axle having a flange therebetween. The driveline is measured to determine an imbalance and a weight is added to the flange to balance the driveline.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 15, 1996
Date of Patent: June 16, 1998
    Assignee: Ford Motor Company

  • Patent number: 5703796
Abstract: An apparatus and method for aligning a driveline in a motor vehicle, including supporting a transmission and a rear axle with the body of the motor vehicle. A driveshaft is supported at a first end with the transmission and supported at a second end with the rear axle. A center bearing is positioned to the body of the motor vehicle to further support the driveshaft. The position of the driveline is then measured and a shim thickness is calculated for installation between the center bearing and the body.

  • Patent number: 4984791
Abstract: The method of facilitating putting a golf ball into a cup on a sloped green comprises providing a pair of right angularly related float levels within a hollow frame with each float level having an axis, index marks and a sighting rod in the frame; orienting the frame to a first upright plane at eye level while visually aligning the sighting rod, ball and cup maintaining the frame at right angles to the line of sight, and angularly adjusting the axis of the first level parallel to the transverse slant in the green. A further step includes noting the position of the buble in the first level relative to its central index to selectively indicate the extent and direction of slope of the green. The location of the bubble defining the ball stroking path which with the correct stroking force will assure a curved path of travel into the cup.
