    Abstract: In one version, the present invention is generally comprised of a non-mechanical switch means that causes an electrically powered lifting device to cease operation if the user of the lifting device attempts to operate it beyond its operational limits. In various embodiments, the non-mechanical switch means may be comprised of a magnetic switch, an optical switch, or an infrared switch. In a second version, the present invention is generally comprised of a lifting device that includes such non-mechanical switch means as a part thereof. In a third version, the present invention includes a method of using such lifting device.
