  • Patent number: 6938389
Abstract: An improved roll formed staple-in awning frame member is disclosed as is a process for its fabrication. The body (21) of a frame member and the staple deck member (11) thereof are roll formed separately along parallel roll forming lines. The staple deck member (11) is then progressively inserted into the body (21) and the two are secured together by a crimping, welding, or other appropriate operation. The frame member is then finally shaped and formed and cut to size in a continuous roll forming and fabrication operation.

Date of Patent: September 6, 2005
    Assignee: Steel Stitch Corporation

  • Patent number: 5794400
Abstract: A composite frame member that includes a longitudinally extending external member that defines a longitudinally extending internal cavity within which a longitudinally extending internal member is disposed. The internal member and external member, while being distinct components, are constructed and arranged to cooperate in a substantially synergistic fashion that seeks to provide a frame member having superior strength characteristics. Further, the internal member and the external member cooperate to define an accessible stapling channel that is capable of being readily stapled into. The external member includes walls that at least partially bound the internal cavity. The internal member is disposed within the internal cavity and defines the stapling channel, wherein the stapling channel receives a cover sheet and staples through an opening defined by the external member.

  • Patent number: 5469672
Abstract: Provided is a flexible, water impervious flash strip for forming a substantially permanent watertight seal between an awning assembly and the building structure to which the awning assembly is attached. The flash strip includes a lip protrusion extending from the rear of the flash strip and biased to extend rearward and slightly upward from the flash strip, a leg protrusion depending from the rear of the flash strip, and a tab protrusion depending from the bottom of the flash strip between the front and rear of the flash strip. The tab protrusion is mated to the elongated stapling channel of a framing tube that is at the upper edge of the awning assembly and that is to be attached to the wall of the building.

  • Patent number: 5044131
Abstract: A fabric awning assembly, method of assembling the same from multiple sections of awning frames, and a novel divider bead for spanning the joint between adjacent sections of awning frames. Staple receiving channels in awning frame extrusions at the end of each section face like channels in adjacent sections so as to facilitate the use of only one divider bead between adjacent sections. The divider beads include protrusions for securing awning fabric within the channels and for protection from pooling moisture. The divider beads, when installed between adjacent sections of fabric awning frames, create the aesthetic impression that the adjacent sections are actually one continuous assembly.
