  • Publication number: 20150354329
Abstract: A reciprocating pump for use in a wellbore is disclosed. The pump includes a fluid directing apparatus for directing fluid in and out of the pump, the fluid directing apparatus having an inlet disposed in a sidewall of the fluid directing apparatus and an outlet. The pump also includes a piston disposed in a fluid housing and a piston driving apparatus for reciprocating the piston in the fluid housing to cause fluid to be pulled in and out of the fluid directing tool. A method of using the reciprocating pump is also disclosed. The pump is placed in to the wellbore in an area where fluid is desired to be pumped out of the wellbore. Once positioned in the wellbore, the pump is operated to remove fluid from the wellbore.

  • Patent number: 8056636
Abstract: A jet pumping system for use in a wellbore drilled for the production or petroleum products includes a packer disposed within the wellbore, an intake pipe extending through the packer, an injection system configured to inject pressurized gas into the wellbore and a jet pump connected to the intake pipe. The jet pump further includes a removable vortex generator. A method for selectively generating foam in-situ in a subterranean well includes the steps of installing a vortex generator in the jet pump with a wire line procedure and pumping a foam generating solution into the jet pump. Pressurized gas is injected into the annulus of the well, which creates a vortex in the jet pump as the pressurized gas is directed into the jet pump through injection ports. The resultant vortex aerates and mixes the foam generating solution and petroleum fluids to generate a foam in the jet pump.

  • Patent number: 5379235
Abstract: A system and method for measuring the biomechanical properties of a healing wound in a specimen which utilize a chamber for applying an increasingly negative pressure over time to an area of tissue containing the wound, markings on the area for facilitating measurement of expansion of the area, a pressure measurement device for measuring the pressure in the chamber as a function of time, one or more cameras for obtaining multiple views of the area over time, a digitizer for generating a digital representation of each of the views, and a processor for determining a strain value from each digital representation and for correlating each strain value with a pressure measurement corresponding to the same point in time to provide a stress-strain relationship.
