Abstract: A one handed currycomb apparatus and method comprised of a base plate with blades with teeth and a handle connected by means of a shank. The currycomb contains a cleaning mechanism comprised of a cleaning plate, actuating lever, and biasing spring. The cleaning plate is connected at a pivoting end to a pivoting pin and is normally biased in a retracted position to the bottom side of the base plate. The cleaning plate contains slots through which the teeth are exposed. By means of the actuating lever, the user can, with either his right or left hand, utilize his index finger to rotate the cleaning plate away from the retracted position to an extended position. When this is done, the slots of the cleaning plate force collected hair, dirt, debris, and the like, from the teeth. Release of the actuating lever results in the return of the cleaning plate to the retracted position and the readying of the device for further use.
