  • Patent number: 7546786
Abstract: A toolholder for use in a metalworking operation, with a body extending along a longitudinal axis and a recess extending within the first end of the body. Adjacent an insert pocket adapted to receive a cutting insert in the recess is at least one wall with a portion having a surface with multiple interruptions to form a chip ejection segment. The chip ejection segment may be an integral part of the toolholder body or may be a discrete piece removably attached to the toolholder body. A method of imparting to a toolholder such a chip ejection segment is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 7510352
Abstract: An integral insert clamping mechanism for transferring clamping forces away from the screw hole of the insert to relieve stress at the screw hole by way of protrusions located on the bottom surface of the clamp plate. The clamping mechanism functions by a clamp plate being seated within an indentation on the top surface of the insert and a screw inserted into screw holes of the clamp plate and the insert and then threadably engaged with a threaded bore of a milling cutter. The top surfaces of the screw, the insert and the clamp plate being substantially coplanar. In an alternative embodiment, the clamp plate having a chip breaker.

  • Patent number: 7101125
Abstract: A twist drill including a cutting tip having a front flank face, a substantially cylindrical tool body extending rearwardly from the cutting tip, and a shank. The tool body includes a rotational axis therethrough and at least one flute formed on an outer peripheral surface thereof and extending to the front flank face. The at least one flute includes a first helical portion opening to the front flank face and a second helical portion extending from the rear end of the first helical portion toward the rear portion of the tool body.
