The surface treatment composition can be made into foam for low energy application and to control depth or penetration of surface treatment.     Abstract: The present invention relates to methods and chemical compositions utilizing NPB (n-propyl bromide) also called 1-bromopropane or propyl bromide or 1-BP or N-Bromopropane as non-aqueous carrier mediums to apply fire retardants, fluorocarbons and other chemicals to substrates, whereby the NPB is evaporated away leaving the remaining chemicals on the substrate. The present invention offers compositions and method for applying organic chemicals to substrates that perform superior to current water based technology. Additional, the invention offers a more economical and environmental friendly alternative to current chlorinated hydrocarbons carriers that are being phased out by mandate of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Various processes may make water repellant textile fabrics. The term “Barrier Substrate” as used herein means essentially impermeable to water, i.e. can support a considerable column of water without water penetration through the fabric. Such behavior is sometimes termed “water resistant.”The second layer providing the barrier can be either urethane (preferred), polyester or an acrylic material which can be a breathable, or non-breathable film which may be back coated after lamination or extrusion creating a third layer. Those skilled in the art can now appreciate from the foregoing description that the broad teachings of the present invention can be implemented in a variety of forms.

    Abstract: The present invention comprises a machine and method for applying chemicals with substrates in a continuous manner, as opposed to batch processes. The machine uses non-aqueous solvents as a carrier medium for the chemicals. The non-aqueous solvents are then evaporated away, leaving the chemicals on the substrates. Additionally, the non-aqueous solvents are then continuously condensed, purified and recycled through the machine.
