  • Publication number: 20020078651
Abstract: There is provided a hip, ridge, or rake shingle, which includes a shingle panel and at least one rigid back member. The shingle panel has a substantially planar lower surface. The at least one rigid back member has a length substantially the same as or greater than the length of the shingle panel. The rigid back member is attached to the substantially planar lower surface of the shingle panel. The rigid back member includes a step in thickness in a cross-sectional plane perpendicular to the substantially planar lower surface and parallel to the longitudinal axis of the rigid back member. In addition, the thickness of the rigid back member at the high level of the step is greater than the thickness of the rigid back member at one of its ends. There is also provided an asphaltic adhesive including from about 62% to about 99% by weight of an asphalt cement; from about 0.5% to about 15% by weight of a first thermoplastic having a glass-transition temperature in the range from about 190° F.

  • Patent number: 6393594
Abstract: A method and system for testing an integrated circuit. A test substrate is provided which is manufactured by the same particular production technology for which the integrated circuit is designed. A pattern generator for generating test data and a result checker for comparing output data are embedded on the test substrate. Isolated portions of circuitry of the integrated circuit are selectively embedded onto the test substrate. Test data from the pattern generator is applied to the isolated portions of circuitry under a first operating condition. The data output from the isolated portions of circuitry is selectively recorded into the result checker. The isolated portions of circuitry are then subjected to testing by applying test data from the pattern generator to the isolated portions of circuitry under a second operating condition.

  • Publication number: 20020003496
Abstract: The present invention provides an RF tag having an antenna that can be selectively tuned to achieve optimal performance. The RF tag comprises an RF transponder integrated circuit and an antenna connected to the RF transponder integrated circuit. The antenna includes components such as tuning stubs and loading bars that are physically alterable to selectively vary the performance characteristics of the antenna. The tuning stub and loading bar may each further comprising a variably selectable length having elements that may be removed by punching, cutting, etching, laser trimming or other process. The antenna may further comprise a leadframe or a flexible substrate.

  • Publication number: 20020000290
Abstract: Partially cured gel coats are prepared in a manner for subsequent application to a substrate, e.g. a reinforcing polymer matrix, by a process comprising the steps of: A. Applying a gel coat, e.g., an unsaturated polyester resin, to a nonporous mold, e.g., a polyester film, which is at least partially transparent to actinic radiation, e.g. UV light; and B. Exposing the surface of the gel coat that is in contact with the film, i.e., the bottom surface, to actinic radiation that has first passed through the mold. In certain embodiments of the invention, the surface of the gel coat opposite the bottom surface, i.e., the top surface, is exposed to actinic radiation shortly after the bottom surface is exposed to the actinic radiation to effect a bi-directional cure of the gel coat. The gel coat produced by the process of the invention is nonporous and essentially defect-free.

  • Publication number: 20010051695
Abstract: An invention is disclosed which pertains to components for gel coat compositions, a process for making such gel coat compositions, and a process for making gel coated articles. Low molecular weight unsaturated polymers which incorporate multiple pendent and/or terminal acrylic or methacrylic vinyl groups are made by the addition polymerization of acrylate/methacrylate monomers with epoxy acrylates such as glycidyl methacrylate, followed by ring opening of the oxirane via action of an (meth)acrylic acid in combination with a ring-opening catalyst to produce the final unsaturated polymer. Gel coat compositions containing such polymers possess improved rheological properties and may be used to create durable in-mold coatings for articles requiring good hydrolytic stability and UV resistance.

  • Patent number: 6289648
Abstract: There is provided a laminated roofing shingle having a first shingle sheet and a second shingle sheet. The first shingle sheet has a headlap section and a buttlap section, the buttlap section being about 7 inches or greater in height and including a plurality of tabs which are spaced apart to define one or more openings between the tabs. Each of the tabs has a relatively uniform color throughout the tab. The second shingle sheet is attached to the underside of the first shingle sheet and has portions exposed through the openings between the tabs. The second shingle sheet has at least first, second, third, and fourth horizontal striations thereon across at least partial portions of the second sheet which are exposed through the openings between the tabs. The first striation includes a first elongated quadrilateral area with a substantially uniform dark color throughout the first quadrilateral area. The second striation includes a second elongated quadrilateral area below the first striation.

  • Patent number: 6121880
Abstract: A sticker transponder adapted to be affixed to a glass surface, such as a vehicle windshield, includes a RFID transponder enabling the storage and retrieval of vehicle related data. The sticker transponder comprises a flexible circuit substrate having an antenna formed thereon and a transponder circuit disposed on the substrate and coupled to the antenna. An adhesive layer is coupled to a first surface of the flexible circuit substrate. An indicia layer is coupled to a second surface of the flexible circuit opposite from the first surface. The indicia layer comprises a space permitting indicia to be printed thereon. The antenna has a characteristic impedance defined in part by a dielectric constant of the flexible circuit substrate in combination with a dielectric constant of the glass surface. As a result, a proper impedance match between the antenna and the transponder circuit is achieved only when the sticker is affixed to the glass surface.

  • Patent number: 4514117
Abstract: A holder is provided for attaching a tool, having a tapered end and a flat driven face on the end, to a rotary drive, such as a drill. The holder has a body with a bore coaxial with the rotary axis. The bore is tapered at one end for slidably receiving the tapered tool end and typically is threaded at the other end for receiving the threaded end of an adapter. The other end of the adapter has six sides for attaching the tool holder to the drill. A flat driving face is provided at the tapered bore for engaging a complementary driven face formed in the tapered end of the tool. The tool is secured axially within the tapered bore by a latch element which extends into the tapered bore to engage a recess in the tapered end of the tool. The latch element can be a pivotal latch plate mounted for movement in a radial plane or a radially extending detent assembly. The latch element can also be magnetic.
