  • Patent number: 7378099
Abstract: The present invention provides immunogenic and pharmaceutical compositions for the treatment and prevention of human papillomavirus (HPV)-associated cancers and in particular, cervical cancer. In particular, this invention relates to fusion proteins, and the nucleic acids encoding these fusion proteins, used to generate immune responses against HPV. Specifically, this invention provides for fusions of HPV E6 and E7 in which the E6 and/or E7 contains one or more mutations. These mutations abrogate the transformation activity of these oncogenic proteins and, thus, confer safety to the E6/E7 fusions. In addition, these fusions maintain or increase the immunogenic efficacy of E6 and E7. Any gene or protein delivery method can be used to deliver or package the immunogenic compositions of the present invention.

  • Publication number: 20070297021
Abstract: Disclosed are embodiments of methods, systems, and apparatus for providing multiple image fields or regions on an imaging array. In certain preferred embodiments, a high density imaging array may be partitioned into two or more regions, each of which may be used to render a separate view of the scan volume. This arrangement may provide an increase in the effective scan volume beyond the volume available with a single imager having a single point of view and may allow for reading of encoded symbols at a variety of orientations that would otherwise preclude accurate imaging with a single imager.

  • Publication number: 20070265572
Abstract: An intravenous catheter anchoring assembly is disclosed and includes a patient-contacting membrane, a platform, and a retaining strap for securing a catheter or tubing of an administration set to a patient. The strap is attached to the platform with adjustable pull-tabs that permit a variety of catheter shapes and sizes to be secured. The strap is also elastomeric so that the strap is stretchable and thereby grabs the secured catheter. The strap and platform further define a plurality of passageways that permit the catheter to be secured in a plurality of non-aligned directions.

  • Publication number: 20070225648
Abstract: An improved injection site (12) for infusion of parenteral fluids and the like is provided, having a pressure-actuated valve (20) and a novel split septum unit (24), which effectively prevent reflux of blood into the assembly (10). The septum unit (24) includes a resilient split septum body (64) which is precompressed so that the septum body (64) is caused to protrude proximally (78) upon insertion of a cannula (16). Consequently, upon removal of the cannula (16), there is essentially no “drumming” or creation of friction-induced negative pressures sufficient to generate blood reflux. The preloaded septum body (64) also has its proximal surface (74) essentially flush and coplanar with the adjacent proximal end (66b) of the tubular septum holder (66) to enhance the cleanliness of the unit (24).

  • Publication number: 20060294347
Abstract: Method, apparatus, and system for a programmable event driven yield mechanism that may activate other threads. The yield mechanism may allow triggering of a service thread that may execute currently with a main thread upon occurrence of an architecturally-defined condition. The service thread may be activated, in response to the condition, with limited intervention of an operating system. In one embodiment, an apparatus includes execution resources to execute a plurality of instructions and a monitor to detect an architecturally-defined condition. The apparatus may include an event handler to handle a yield event generated when the architecturally-defined condition has been detected. An architectural mechanism, including processor instructions and channel registers, may be utilized to allow user-level code to enable the yield event mechanism. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.

  • Publication number: 20060278713
Abstract: Systems and methods for optical scanning, in one configuration, including a torsional dither mechanism having a torsion rod formed of integral construction machined from a single metal piece, magnet and mirror mount attached to the free end of the torsion rod, and electromagnetic drive. The drive comprises a magnet mounted to the magnet mount and a drive coil. Torque is generated on the dither arm as oscillating current is applied to the coil, to preferably drive the torsion rod at a high oscillation speed on the order of 5 KHz. Acoustic noise control is provided by using a combination of elastomeric isolation mounts, a thick wall enclosure and lid for the dither, an electrically resonant dither drive, and mechanically resonant drive control using back EMF from a moving magnet to set the frequency of oscillation of the dither drive.
