    Abstract: This invention is directed to a medical device having an elongate shaft having a distal end and a controller coupled to the shaft. A control member can extend through at least part of the elongate shaft and at least part of the controller, wherein the control member in a tensioned configuration can be moveable by the controller to control the distal end of the shaft and the control member can be slack in an untensioned configuration. A tensioning mechanism can be configured to move relative to at least one of the elongate shaft and the controller to tension the control member and automatically lock the control member in the tensioned configuration.

In a second configuration, the controller can move the distal end of the elongate shaft. The surgical instrument can also have an aperture configured to receive the control element in the first configuration and receive an insert element fixedly coupled to the controller and configured to cover the aperture in the second configuration.

The assembly may further include a second cap configured to receive a portion of the first cap. The second cap includes a distal end having a second opening. A distal portion of the first cap and a distal portion of the second cap may cooperate to define a resection loop track for receiving a resection loop.

    Abstract: Medical devices are disclosed including polypectomy snare devices. An example polypectomy snare device may include an elongated sheath having a distal end. A hollow shaft may extend through and be movable relative to the sheath. A distal portion of the shaft may have a slit formed therein. The shaft may be shiftable between a first configuration wherein the distal portion is substantially straight and a second configuration wherein the distal portion includes a bend. A snare wire may be disposed within the shaft. A distal section of the snare wire may extend through the slit when the shaft is in the second configuration.
