  • Publication number: 20200024503
Abstract: In an embodiment, a resin formulation is provided. The resin formulation includes a curable resin; a hardener, wherein a concentration of hardener is from 15 wt % to 80 wt % based on a total weight of the curable resin; and a surfactant, wherein a concentration of surfactant is from 0.1 wt % to 5 wt % based on the total weight of the curable resin. In another embodiment, a method of treating a wellbore is provided. The method includes adding to a subterranean wellbore a volume of a resin formulation, the resin formulation comprising a curable resin, a hardener, and a surfactant; and allowing the resin formulation to form a sealant.

  • Publication number: 20190185735
Abstract: A sealant is provided which is a curable resin external emulsion having a fluid internal phase comprising a curable material which expands during, after or before it cures. The resin external phase is, for example, an epoxy resin which may shrink as it cures. The internal phase is captured within micelles to provide discrete internal phase portions supported in an out resin matrix.

  • Patent number: 9416051
Abstract: Disclosed is a composition and a method for cementing a casing in a borehole of a well using an aqueous cementing composition comprising (a) water, (b) a cementing composition comprising (i) a hydraulic cement, (ii) a hydrophobically modified polymer, (iii) a dispersant, and optionally (iv) one or more other additives conventionally added to aqueous cementing compositions useful in cementing casings in the borehole of wells. Preferably the hydrophobically modified hydroxyethyl cellulose has an ethylene oxide molar substitution of from 0.5 to 3.5, a hydrophobe degree of substitution of from 0.001 to 0.025, and a weight-average molecular weight of from 500,000 to 4,000,000 Daltons and the dispersant is sulfonated polymer, melamine formaldehyde condensate, a naphthalene formaldehyde condensate, a branched or non-branched polycarboxylate polymer.

  • Patent number: 6732797
Abstract: A method of forming a cementitious plug in a well is disclosed. According to the method, a well is selected for treatment which lacks sufficient formation pressure to cause well fluid to naturally flow to the surface of the well. In addition, a formation penetrated by the well has unobstructed access between it and the surface. Having thus selected a well for treatment, a liquid slurry comprising a cementitious material, whose density is greater than the density of the well fluid, is introduced into the well. The slurry is permitted to drive the well fluid into the formation. Sufficient slurry is added to the well to fill the well to the surface. The slurry is then permitted to set into a hardened mass.

  • Patent number: 5483986
Abstract: Improved methods of displacing a first liquid through a pipe with a second liquid while preventing the first and second liquids from mixing are provided. In accordance with the methods, a plug is formed in-situ in the pipe between the first and second liquids by injecting a self-thickening liquid therein and permitting the liquid to thicken. The formed plug and the first liquid are then displaced through the pipe with the second liquid. The methods are particularly suitable for carrying out subterranean well bore cementing operations wherein cement slurries are displaced through pipes disposed in well bores.

  • Patent number: 5355951
Abstract: A method of evaluating a slurry mixing and placing process, such as a cementing process, for an oil or gas well comprises identifying and measuring specific subprocesses and parameters thereof, statistically summarizing the parameters and creating a database thereof, and analyzing the statistically summarized parameters to identify or compare against process capabilities to reduce variation, thereby improving specific job performance and the overall process.
