Abstract: A manually operable contact lens surface treatment apparatus for performing such contact lens surface treatment procedures as polishing, cleaning or lens modification. The apparatus has a sleeve like housing with open ends. A mounting drum is removably inserted in one end of the housing and carries a cloth or pad extended across the retainer opening for access from the opposite end of the sleeve. A contact lens holder is releasably mounted in the opposite end of the sleeve by a mounting assembly permitting axial rotation of the lens holder and axial movement within the sleeve so that a contact lens secured by the holder can be brought into contact with the pad and rotated with respect to it in order to perform a procedure on the lens. A first form of contact lens holder is for holding a rigid lens and a second form is for holding a soft contact lens.

Abstract: A method of cleaning a contact lens comprising providing a flexible cleaning pad, providing support means for the cleaning pad having a central opening and outer peripheral side walls, providing a base member interconnected with the outer side walls of the support means and the edges of the cleansing pad to hold the cleansing pad in place, applying a lens cleansing solution to the portion of the cleansing pad spanning the central opening of the support means, and applying a contact lens to be cleansed in generaly reciprocal action to the portion of the cleansing pad having cleansing solution.

Abstract: An appliance for cleaning hard or soft contact lenses, as well as other delicate optical objects. A frame carrying a cleaning pad or cloth is mounted in a base. The frame has an access opening that is covered by the pad. The pad overlaps the edges of the frame defining the access opening. The base has a mounting opening corresponding in size and shape to the shape of the frame such that the frame can be installed in the opening of the base with the edges of the pad lodged between the frame and the base and the portion of the pad covering the access opening exposed and accessible by the user. Cleaning solution is applied to the accessible portion of the pad and the contact lens rubbed upon it in order to clean the lens.
