  • Patent number: 6679815
Abstract: An exercise apparatus utilizes a weight-laden frame which is grasped by the hands of a user during an exercise routine for lifting the frame from the floor during a lift phase of the exercise routine and for subsequently returning the frame to the floor during a lowering phase of the routine. To enhance the strength gains of the user, the user walks while holding the apparatus in spaced relationship with the floor following the lift phase of the routine. The frame of the apparatus is sized so that walking movements of the user are unobstructed by the frame and so that if the apparatus is dropped while the user walks while holding the apparatus, no part of the apparatus strikes the legs or feet of the user.

  • Patent number: 5967944
Abstract: A cross-training exercise apparatus includes a base, a pair of foot supports pivotally and slidably joined to the base by way of a linkage assembly interposed between each foot support and the base. Each linkage assembly accommodates a pivotal movement of a corresponding foot support relative to the base between forward and rearward positions and accommodates a movement of each foot support relative to the base between raised and lowered positions. The exercise apparatus also includes a pair of cable and pulley arrangements which are associated with the base and joined between the foot supports for coordinating the movement of the foot supports between forward and rearward positions or between upward and downward positions so that movement of one foot support relative to the base effects a corresponding movement of the other foot support relative to the base.

  • Patent number: 5951445
Abstract: A multi-station exercise apparatus for use during a leg exercise routine during which the user lies in a supine position and bends his legs at the knees and waist between extended-leg and bent-leg conditions includes a frame and a bench and utilizes two pairs of movable stirrups arranged generally above the bench at opposite ends thereof. The stirrups are adapted to accept the feet of the user as the user lies upon the bench in the supine position and to move with the feet as the legs of the user are bent at the knees and waist between extended-leg and bent-leg conditions. The frame includes two sets of guide rods disposed at each of the opposite ends of the bench for guiding the movement of the two pairs of stirrups generally upwardly and downwardly along predetermined paths as the user selectively moves either the first or second pair of the stirrups with his feet as the feet are moved between the bent-leg and extended-leg conditions.

  • Patent number: 5928117
Abstract: An exercise apparatus includes an inner frame which the user attempts to move during an exercise routine performed with the apparatus and an outer frame which generally encompasses the inner frame. A tensioned cable joins the inner and outer frames and resists the movement of the inner frame relative to the outer frame during an exercise routine.

  • Patent number: 5735773
Abstract: A cross-training exercise apparatus includes a base, a pair of foot supports pivotally and slidably joined to the base by way of a three-member linkage arrangement interposed between each foot support and the base. Each three-member linkage arrangement accommodates a pivotal movement of a corresponding foot support relative to the base between forward and rearward positions and accommodates a sliding movement of each foot support relative to the base between raised and lowered positions. The exercise apparatus also includes a pair of cable and pulley arrangements which are associated with the base and joined between the foot supports for coordinating the pivotal and sliding movement of the foot supports between forward and rearward positions or between upward and downward positions so that pivotal or sliding movement of one foot support relative to the base effects a corresponding pivotal or sliding movement of the other foot support relative to the base.

  • Patent number: 5679105
Abstract: An apparatus for use during the performance of squat-jump type exercises utilizes a weight-laden frame which is grasped by the hands of a user during the performance of the exercise routine and leg members associated with the frame which are spring-biased from a retracted position toward an extended position. During an exercise routine performed with the apparatus, the apparatus is lifted from the floor during a jump phase of the routine and is returned to the floor during a rebound phase of the routine. The spring-biased leg members of the apparatus cushion the effects of the weight-laden frame as the apparatus is returned into contact with the floor and facilitate the lifting of the apparatus during a subsequent jump phase of the routine.

  • Patent number: 5569133
Abstract: An exercise apparatus for use as a user performs knee-bending exercises while maintaining his balance over his feet includes a grip stably mounted adjacent the user and which is capable of being grasped and held with a hand of the user as the user bends his knees between bent and extended conditions. When held with the hand during the performance of a knee-bending exercise routine, the grip stabilizes the user and thereby enables the user to maintain his balance over his feet with relative ease. The grip of the apparatus is particularly well-suited for use during the performance of a squat exercise routine during which a weight-laden yoke is moved between elevated and lowered positions as the user repeatedly moves between standing and squat positions. The weight-laden yoke includes a yoke portion positionable across the neck of the user. The yoke portion is pivotally attached to weight-laden carriages guided on vertical rods.

  • Patent number: 5336141
Abstract: The specification discloses an exercise apparatus for simulating a variety of perambulatory movements such as walking, stair climbing, jogging, skiing, and jumping. In one embodiment, oscillators in the nature of leaf springs are pivotally suspended side-by-side from a frame for oscillatory movement after the manner of step paths. The feet of a user are positioned in foot supports mounted on the springs. To exercise, the user exerts forces on the springs to simulate perambulatory movements, flexing and oscillating the springs in a desired manner according to the degree of exertion appropriate for the user.

  • Patent number: 5273509
Abstract: The application discloses a handle for an exercise machine having a force resistor such as the cable type wherein a weight stack supplies resistance to movement of the handle along a path through an interconnecting cable system. The handle includes a grip supported on an elongate arm. A base includes structure for connecting the handle to the force resistor. A ball joint connects the arm to the base to enable simultaneous rotation of the arm about its length axis and pivotal movement of the arm in an orbital fashion relative to the base to provide an expanded range of positions of the user's hand during opposed movement of the handle along the path.
