  • Patent number: 6785280
Abstract: An ATM connection (45) and call connection equipment 22 can be dynamically allocated between exchanges (20, 30). The connection is setup and released by a master switch (20) on one side of the connection. The slave 30 is controlled using standard signaling protocols and the physical connections (45) between the interworking units (40, 50) use circuit-emulation according to AAL1. The master (20) controls the ATM connection (45) with standard signaling and the slave (30) with normal trunk signaling. The ATM connection 45 and connection 26 can be setup between the nodes (40, 50) when needed based on the traffic needs of the network (10).

  • Patent number: 6715083
Abstract: Provided is a method and system for alerting an Internet service provider (ISP) having a server, or an Internet Connected Computer (ICC), that a potential hacker may be using it to attempt to access a target. The method detects a hacking event at the target, and reports the hacking event to a server located outside the target. The server may then report the hacking activity, including the identity of the hacker, to the target system's administrator, or another party, such as government entities. The system, which may be implemented as software, uses a monitor module and an action module to alert an Internet service provider that a hacker may be using it to attempt access to a target.

  • Patent number: 6697468
Abstract: A telecommunications system and method are disclosed for providing information relating to a telephone call associated with an access point within a telecommunications system, such as a telephone line or telephone number, to a software application in substantial real time. The system and method include assigning a destination address to the telecommunications system access point about which telephone call information is desired, and sending an electronic message to the destination address in response to a telephone call being established utilizing the access point. The electronic message includes, among other things, information relating to the telephone call and the access point.

  • Patent number: 6519332
Abstract: A mechanism for rejecting specific types of calls in a network including collect calls and telemarketing calls. Calls are tagged to indicate the type of call, this tag being recognizable at the terminating end of the network allowing automatic rejection of the call on a subscription basis. In one embodiment, an OLI parameter is utilized to tag the call. In another embodiment, another parameter such as Optional Forward Call Indicator is utilized. An end office serving the subscriber may automatically reject the call, or may pass on the call to a PBX serving multiple subscribers. The PBX may automatically reject all calls of a particular type, or may allow calls depending on the subscriber being called.

  • Patent number: 6507649
Abstract: A thin ISUP layer (100) for internetworking an SS7 gateway and distributed ISUPs (90) residing on separate processors suitable for use in an SS7 network (50). The thin-ISUP layer (100) defines an operations/management module that controls circuit signaling functions between an SS7 gateway and the distributed ISUPs (90). A set of ISUP messaging functions are provided to control the sequencing of messages for distribution among the processors. Connection supervision is provided to maintain the connections between the processors. The thin ISUP layer (100) can be implemented between the MPT layer (84, 86, 88) and an ISUP layer (90) of distributed processors in the network (50).

  • Patent number: 6137876
Abstract: A Network Call Trace (NCT) method and system enables a call path route to be traced in a telecommunications network. A Type of Digit (TOD) in the Generic Digits Parameter (GDP) for an Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) User Part (ISUP) command can be utilized to realize the NCT. A listing of Switch IDs (SIDs) from the originating subscriber's switch to the terminating subscriber's switch is provided so that routing inefficiencies can be discovered. In one embodiment, an Initial Address Message (IAM) is transmitted with a TOD Network Call Trace in the GDP. The NCT includes the SID of the originating switch. Any intermediate switches between the originating switch and the terminating switch likewise append their own SID onto the NCT list of SIDs. Finally, the terminating switch also adds its SID onto the end of the NCT list. This NCT list may then be transmitted and displayed for analysis.
