  • Patent number: 10429316
Abstract: The method and equipment described are for coherent scanning, that is where sections of the same object are comparable in the images, of objects such as food stuff based on scanning with the utilization of electromagnetic waves from at least two ranges within vision (visible light), NIR (near infrared light) and X-rays. The method consist of determination an object's reflection in the NIR and/or vision ranges associated with the same object's transmission in the X-ray range to obtain an even higher degree of details concerning the structure of the object by determining its surface texture together with description of its inner structure and/or composition. The equipment comprises a cabinet (2), a computer (6), a camera (3), an X-ray source (4), a light source (7), and an X-ray detector (5). An additional start sensor (8) registers the presence of objects on the conveyor belt (1) and the scanning is triggered.

  • Publication number: 20190142351
Abstract: CT-scanners for industrial use e.g. at abattoirs for scanning animal carcasses or cuttings hereof should be able to perform continuous scanning for an extended period of time and should be hygienic designed and be easy to clean. The CT scanner has an elongated tube forming a through-going opening for continuous conveying objects to be scanned through the CT-scanner and may have elongated detector pixel geometry leading to a fixed anisotropic spatial resolution. The CT-scanner is especially for scanning meat pieces to determine the quality such as the distribution of muscles and fat within the meat pieces.

  • Publication number: 20180345513
Abstract: The disclosure relates to an annular knife with a sensor for determining the cutting depth and a method for determining the cutting depth. When trimming meat such as at abattoirs a customer may require a fat layer of a given thickness, however the natural fat layer of animals vat between different carcasses and within the individual carcass/meat piece. By determining the fat layer thickness and variation hereof of a meat piece before trimming the meat piece an operator may be presented with such information and be able to remove tit in different areas to obtain the required thickness. The trimming may be performed with a system calculating in real unit how much fat is to be removed when some fat has already been removed by an operator.

  • Patent number: 7918718
Abstract: A method for automatically determining quality characteristics of a carcass on a slaughterline. The method comprises conveying the carcass in a direction of transport, preliminary examination to determine the location of one or more anatomical reference parts of the carcass in the direction of transport, calculating the location in the direction of transport of at least one cross-section in the carcass using the location of the anatomical reference part(s) and possibly other data on the carcass, and CT measuring the nature of internal anatomical parts of the carcass in at least one of these cross-sections in the carcass, controlled by the calculated location.

  • Patent number: 6649412
Abstract: This invention relates to a method and an apparatus for determining quality properties of fish on the basis of light reflection. A fish and a reflection measurement device (5) with a light emitter and a light receiver (6) are positioned in relation to each other, with the light emitter and light receiver of the device directed towards the fish's inner abdominal wall with peritoneum, so that the light emitter illuminates an area of the fish through the peritoneum and the light receiver captures the light reflected from the fish. The intensity of the reflected light is registered in three or more different wavelength bands, in the visible and near-infrared range. Measurement results registered are, after any processing, entered into an algorithm in a calculation unit, where the algorithm expresses a quality property of the fish.

  • Patent number: 5754324
Abstract: A method and apparatus for processing signals from light pulses for use in detecting the presence of objects that intrude between a light source and light receiver. Upon the receiver detecting light pulses emitted from the source, the emitted light pulses are modulated responsive to a modulation signal into an electro-optical signal path having successive periods. Each period has main, minimum and maximum pulses with the signal path providing a linear processing area having upper and lower amplitudes. Within the linear processing area an hysteresis range is set with upper and lower detection levels. Detection is disabled for those light pulses having amplitudes which are above or below the respective upper and lower detection levels. The linear processing area has an offset amplitude and the main pulse is controlled to have an amplitude which is a function of the offset amplitude.
