  • Patent number: 7131378
Abstract: A device for processing a printing substrate (22), having at least one processing tool (10), in particular a die plate or a perforating knife, which is accommodated on a rotatable carrier body (14); the carrier body (14) being at least partially provided with a magnetizable coating (16) which, when magnetized, holds the processing tool (10) on the carrier body (14) by the action of magnetic force. The device can be used to advantage in a print finishing machine, a printing press, or in a folding apparatus of a web-fed printing press.

  • Patent number: 6799438
Abstract: A microstructure is formed in a viscous glass or plastic substrate by pressing a structured surface of a forming tool corresponding to a negative of the microstructure to be produced in the viscous glass or plastic substrate. After the microstructure has been formed, the forming tool is removed from the surface. In order to help form the microstructure and remove the forming tool from the substrate the forming tool has an at least partially porous base body (1) and an operative layer (2) structured with a negative structure consisting of grooves (11) extending to the porous base body (1). The forming of the microstructure in the substrate is assisted by applying suction to the porous base body (1) so that the grooves (11) fill more easily and completely with melted glass or plastic material. The removal of the forming tool after forming the microstructure is assisted by applying an overpressure to the porous body to help release the solidified glass or plastic material from the forming tool.

  • Publication number: 20030024268
Abstract: A method of producing glass balls, which method can be used for all types of glass, even for glass balls having a very small diameter. If glass fibers or glass rods are plasticized at least partially at their ends by the effect of heat, if glass portions are separated from the plasticized parts of the glass fibers or glass rods, sprayed or passed through nozzles, and if glass balls are formed by subsequently cooling the separated and sprayed glass portions as a result of minimizing the surface energy, then a complex, mechanical surface-finishing treatment is not required.

  • Publication number: 20020011550
Abstract: The forming tool for making glass or plastic products has a cooling system and is made by a method including first determining shape and position of interior spaces for cooling ducts or cooling chambers (8) of the cooling system in the forming tool, according to required location-dependent cooling performance in the cooling system; providing a vacuum-tight sealed capsule (4) containing at least two materials (6,7) in which the interior spaces having the appropriate shape and position are formed by providing predetermined bounding surfaces (5) between the at least two materials, wherein one of the materials is a heat-resistant filling material (6) that is soluble in a liquid; subjecting the vacuum-tight sealed capsule to a hot-isostatic-pressing process to form a combined body within the capsule (4), in which the filling material (6) is incorporated; then working the combined body to form a required predetermined outer surface of the forming tool and removing the filling material (6) from the combined body to
