  • Publication number: 20080046132
Abstract: The present invention relates to preventing electronic devices (e.g., mobile terminal devices) from overheating in a communication network environment. Heat related information indicating heat generation or a simple temperature measurement at the terminal device may be sent to a network element causing the network element to adjust an inactivity period and/or a actual transmission data rate, (e.g. using a DRX/DTX parameter adjustment), so that no further rise in temperature at the terminal device occurs because of dissipation losses in the electronic components of the terminal device. Additionally, a control loop may be constituted starting at the terminal device, which detects the heat related information, provides the heat related information explicitly or implicitly to a network device, which in turn causes the network device to adjust the inactivity period and/or the transmission data rate base on the provided heat related information.

  • Publication number: 20070291728
Abstract: A method, terminal device, network element, system and computer program product for controlling discontinuous reception or transmission at a terminal device of a communication network are disclosed. A regular discontinuous reception or transmission cycle of a regular discontinuous reception or transmission scheme is set by using a first control layer, and in addition thereto a shorter temporary discontinuous reception or transmission cycle of an interim discontinuous reception or transmission scheme can be set by using a second control layer. This arrangement provides long discontinuous reception or transmission cycles for power consumption improvements while at the same time ensuring that the network can easily and flexibly shorten these cycles for increased data throughput, if needed.

  • Publication number: 20070248053
Abstract: The invention relates to an improved method and arrangement for controlling a cell change performed by a terminal of a cellular radio system. In particular the invention relates to a cell change in a situation where the terminal is connected to a special service provided by its current cell, e.g. to the GPRS service (General Packet Radio Service). An essential idea of the invention is that in conjunction with a cell change order a base station sends to the terminal information about whether the terminal is allowed not to carry out the cell change order if the terminal does not know the timing information of the new cell assigned to it. This information is advantageously sent in a signalling message of a certain service, such as the GPRS service. It is an advantage of the invention that a terminal connected to a certain service will not make unnecessary cell change attempts which are doomed to fail.

  • Publication number: 20060251019
Abstract: A method and corresponding equipment by which a mobile station (wireless terminal) is able to undergo handover to another cell of a telecommunication system, and continue to receive a point-to-multicast transmission (e.g. MBMS packets) without a delay otherwise caused because of having to receive a channel (e.g. PBCCH in case of MBMS) conveying system information in the new cell and so causing the mobile station to first obtain the bearer information/location for the system information channel. The method is based on the mobile station using information in a neighboring cell information message (e.g. the MNCI message in case of an MBMS session) or other message (possibly specially defined) before changing to the new cell to determine the bearer information for the system information channel in the new cell (and also obtaining from the neighboring cell information the bearer information for receiving the point-to-multipoint transmission in the new cell).

  • Publication number: 20060209798
Abstract: A terminal device and method of re-establishes a circuit switched call or a packet switched connection in a data network having at least a first access network and a second access network. A failure of the circuit switched call or the packet switched connection established via the first access network is detected at the terminal device and connection re-establishment is initiated via the second access network in response to the result of checking registration to the second access network, if a failure has been detected. Thereby, a new option is provided to avoid connection failures when coverage to another access network is available, especially where call re-establishment via the first access network is not allowed.

  • Publication number: 20060121935
Abstract: Interconnected first and second radio access technology (RAT) systems simultaneously communicate with mobile terminals each capable of operating in both the first and second RAT systems. A given mobile terminal is capable of detecting it is within range of an access point of the second RAT while the terminal is in communication with an access point of the first RAT. It exchanges registration signals (412, 414) with the access point of the second RAT and only then does it provide an identification signal (430) indicative of registration therein to the access point of the first RAT. There it is used in determining whether to handover the terminal to the second RAT. Using this approach, there is no need for a complex measurement reporting system and, as another benefit, mobile terminals without dual-RAT capabilities are relieved of unnecessary radio measurements.

  • Publication number: 20060084443
Abstract: This invention describes a new methodology for a cell reselection by a mobile station (MS) for improving network interconnection and interoperability in a limited mobile access environment. The invention is applicable to any kind of networks and their interconnections. The invention describes how the MS can better recover from failed intersystem cell reselection attempts so that there are fewer subsequent failed attempts using two major improvements. First, the MS takes into consideration during cell reselection evaluation and candidate-cell selection, whether the MS had previously been unsuccessful in reselecting the considered cell. This means treating neighbor cells to which the MS had failed reselection before with a lower priority in subsequent cell reselection evaluations. Second, the MS is allowed to stop monitoring and thus, to stop evaluating cells if it was earlier found that the access to those cells is forbidden.
