  • Patent number: 7997178
Abstract: The present invention proposes a novel method for producing powder charges with a high charge density consisting of a granulated powder lying loosely in the charge. In accordance with the invention, the powder is vacuum-packed in airtight pouches made of a combustible and preferably flexible packaging material.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 6, 2006
Date of Patent: August 16, 2011
    Assignee: BAE Systems Bofors AB

  • Patent number: 4688465
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for production of cartridged propellant charges for barrel weapons with charge weights up to 1.4 kg/liter.According to the invention, more granular or particle-shaped propellant powder is driven down or compacted than can be housed in free-running condition within the same volume by means of a piston or plunger (6) in a single stage down into a case (4) the inside of which is coated with a friction-reducing coating. The piston or plunger (6) can then be provided with an elastically deformable leading part (7) of e.g. rubber and/or with a conically tipped leading end (7a). According to one variant of the invention the powder is pressed down into a bag (12, 13) of combustible fibre material which has been inserted in advance down into the case (4) coated internally with a friction-reducing coating or which has itself been impregnated with a friction-reducing coating.

  • Patent number: 4381270
Abstract: A method of producing pressed rocket propellant with good flash suppression and a high burning velocity, i.e. containing optimal quantities of flash reducing agent and catalysts. The meethod is characterized by the entire quantity of flash reducing agent required in order to achieve the result desired being mixed into a separate quantity of propellant while the entire quantity of catalysts required in order to achieve the result desired is mixed into the remaining quantity of propellant, after which these propellants containing either flash reducing agent or catalysts are converted into an appropriate form and mixed in layers or in its entirety and thereafter pressed into the form desired. In the body of propellant obtained, the flash reducing agent and catalysts will be separated, and will not interfere with each other's function.

  • Patent number: 4003137
Abstract: Method and apparatus for drying nitrocellulose powder. The wet powder with the liquid is admitted into the upper part of a frame comprising a pair of generally parallel spaced foraminous members which are inclined at an acute angle to the horizontal. The wet powder is admitted in sufficient quantity to substantially fill the space between the members. A stream of a drying gas is directed against the upper one of the members and the dried powder is received from between the spaced members at the bottom of the frame. The liquid is removed through the apertures in the lower one of the members. Preferably, the angle of inclination of the frame is between 5.degree. and 45.degree. to the horizontal. The velocity of the drying gas is selected such that, in conjunction with the angle of inclination of the frame, the powder is spread as a substantially even layer over the lower one of the frame members throughout the drying of the powder.
