  • Patent number: 5917065
Abstract: A cyclone for treating a gas flow (F) containing dust comprises a cyclone chamber (1) of circular cross section and having a vertical axis, and a central tube (7) of circular cross section, which is coaxially arranged in the upper portion of the cyclone chamber (1). An elongated insert element (10), which is vertically inserted in the central tube (7), is so designed and extends in such a manner downwards in the central tube (7) from the upper end thereof that a circumferential gap (17) exists between the insert element (10) and the central tube (7). This gap (17) has a preferably constant cross-sectional area which does not increase in the direction of the gas flow.

  • Patent number: 5887973
Abstract: A device for mixing particulate material and liquid comprises a container (1), an inlet (9) for the introduction of particulate material (P1) into the container (1), a spraying means (15, 16) for spraying liquid over the particulate material in the container, an agitator (17, 17', 22, 22') arranged in the container (1), and an outlet (10) for discharging material mixed with liquid from the container (1). A fluidization means (6, 12, 13, 14) is adapted to fluidize the particulate material in the container (1) during the mixing operation.

  • Patent number: 5844957
Abstract: A reactor core for a boiling water nuclear reactor includes a plurality of fuel assemblies (40) with a plurality of vertical fuel rods (10) and possibly occasional vertical water-filled rods or channels (32, 48, 49, 50, 51) which are surrounded by a fuel channel (1). Between the fuel assemblies (40) there are arranged water gaps (37a, 37b). At least one fuel assembly (40) has at least one outer, reduced corner portion (41) facing a gap (37a, 37bb), and the number of fuel rods (10) in each such fuel assembly (40) is reduced by a number corresponding to the number of reduced corner portions (41) therein.

  • Patent number: 5759505
Abstract: A method and a device for removing sulphur dioxide from a gas, preferably a flue gas, by means of an aqueous suspension of an absorbent, preferably limestone, are disclosed. In the method, the flue gas is conducted through a conduit topped with an apertured plate (3) on which is provided a flowing layer of the absorbent suspension having a static height of at least about 100 mm, preferably about 200-500 mm, and a volume of about 50-500 l, calculated per m.sup.3 of flue gas flowing through the layer every second. The layer of absorbent suspension flows along the apertured plate (3) at a flow rate of about 5-100 l/s, preferably about 10-30 l/s per 1 m.sup.3 of sulphur-dioxide-containing gas per second.

  • Patent number: 4963330
Abstract: According to the invention there is provided an arrangement which can be used in particular in a media-mixing nozzle assembly intended for use with or to be incorporated in a contact reactor. The nozzle assembly enables a first medium to be mixed with a second medium. This medium mixture is used to clean a contaminated medium fed to the contact reactor, by bringing the contaminated medium into contact with the medium mixture, this mixture containing an absorbent which is capable of reacting with the contaminants in the contaminated medium. The first medium and the second medium are supplied under overpressure to a mixing chamber provided in the nozzle assembly and located upstream of the exit orifice of a nozzle.

  • Patent number: 4941896
Abstract: A gas cleansing arrangement comprising a vessel (1) partially filled with liquid (32) and a gas distribution means (14) beneath the liquid surface (34). The gas distribution means (14) comprises obliquely and downwardly extending distribution pipes (26) with upwardly facing inlet openings (64) for contaminated gas and a lower opening (22). The inlet openings are each connected to a venturi device (28) having an outlet opening (31) and suction openings (29) facing the liquid (32). In use, pressurized gas urges an inner liquid surface (46) downwards in the distributor means (14), until the liquid surface (46) reaches and exposes the uppermost inlet opening or openings (64). The gas is then forced through respective venturi device (28) at a pressure drop corresponding to the height difference (h) between the inner liquid surface (46) and respective outlet opening (31).

  • Patent number: 4936878
Abstract: Method for cleansing gas from solid, liquid and/or gaseous contaminants, by bubbling the gas through a liquid bath (32), and by introducing the incoming gas into a distribution means (14) and causing the gas to pass in part-streams through a multiple of inlet orifices (64) located at progressively increasing depths beneath the surface (34) of the liquid (32). With increasing inlet pressure an increasing number of inlet orifices (64) are utilized for an increasing number of part-streams. The gas flow is passed from respective inlet orifices (64) through connecting means (24, 26, 28) to outlet orifices (31) located at a considerably higher height level (h) than corresponding inlet orifices (64). The gas flow is caused to flow out through venturi nozzles (28) and/or to strike against impinger or striking surfaces (39) with a minimum pressure drop corresponding to said height differential (h).

  • Patent number: 4690333
Abstract: The invention relates to a media mixing nozzle assembly (10'), intended for use in a contact reactor to enable a first medium (A) to be mixed with a second medium (B), where the mixed medium is to be used for cleansing a contaminated medium fed to the contact reactor, by bringing the contaminated medium (5a') into contact with the medium mixture (C) containing an absorption material which reacts with the impurities contained by the contaminated medium. The first medium (A) and the second medium (B) are supplied, under overpressure, to a mixing chamber (13') of the nozzle assembly. This chamber (13') is connected with a mixture conveying channel (20) having a cross-section which diverges from the chamber (13') in a manner such that the pressure within the exit orifice (20a) of the channel substantially coincides with the pressure surrounding (21) the channel orifice.
