  • Publication number: 20050156078
Abstract: A winding apparatus for winding a paper web, comprising a reel spool onto which the web is wound to form a paper roll, a support member forming a nip with the paper roll, and an actuator mounted at the support member or reel spool to control the distance therebetween. According to the invention the apparatus has a measuring and controlling equipment comprising a light-emitting member to illuminate the paper roll by light providing a line on the cylindrical surface of the paper roll, a receptive system arranged to depict the line, and a control unit connected to the receptive system and arranged to analyze the depicted line in order to calculate the distance between the paper roll and the support member and send a position-correcting signal to the actuator when the distance calculated deviates from a predetermined distance. The invention also relates to such a measuring and controlling equipment and a method for controlling the distance between the paper roll and the support member.

  • Patent number: 6152670
Abstract: A storage arrangement for empty cores for a reel-up in which paper is wound to form reels of paper, said storage arrangement having a stand comprising a feed-out ramp and a container with a top, a bottom and four vertical sides consisting of a front side facing the feed-out ramp, a rear side and two sides, said four sides between them defining a space for empty cores, which container also comprises an upper inlet opening and a lower outlet opening in conjunction with the upstream end of the feed-out ramp. According to the invention a plurality of downwardly inclined planes are arranged one beneath the other inside the container, directed alternately from the front side and the rear side, each plane having a downstream end located a predetermined distance from the adjacent rear side or front side to provide an opening therebetween so that each empty core rolling down an upstream plane continues freely to the next plane in a continuous path from the inlet opening to the outlet opening.

  • Patent number: 6047916
Abstract: A reel-up in a paper machine in which the web is reeled onto reeling drums provided with cores, the reel-up having an upper pair of parallel rails extending from the downstream end of the reel-up to its upstream end to support a stock of reeling drums provided with cores, and a handling station for handling finished reels of paper, reeling drums and cores, the handling station having a vertically movable lifting table for receipt of a finished reel of paper, a device for moving a reeling drum out from a reel of paper on the lifting table and for subsequently inserting the reeling drum into at least one core on the lifting table, and a device for feeding cores out onto the lifting table. According to the invention the handling station is provided with a lifting device comprising two lifting elements arranged to be brought into engagement with a reeling drum provided with core(s) and situated on the lifting table, and to lift this and deliver it to the upper pair of rails.

  • Patent number: 6047917
Abstract: A reel-up in which paper is reeled up on reeling drums to form paper reels is provided. The reel-up comprises two stand members provided with stand rails to support the reeling drum. A secondary system consisting of first and second secondary units for receipt of new reeling drums is provided adjacent to the stand members. Each secondary unit comprises a first and a second secondary member, each arranged adjacent one of the stand members. Both secondary members of each secondary unit are arranged at the outer sides of the stand members so that the deleterious effects of paper dust, etc. between the stand members are eliminated.

  • Patent number: 5878462
Abstract: An apparatus for removing dust released, for instance, during the production of a soft crepe paper web which is creped off a Yankee cylinder and spread laterally. The apparatus comprises a dust suction box consisting of a housing with an inner suction chamber, said housing having a first inlet in the form of a suction gap, a main part and first and second parts which define said suction gap between them. According to the invention the main part is in the form of part of a cylinder to provide a corresponding curved inner side in the suction chamber, and the suction gap comprises an outer gradual throttling and an inner gradual enlargement, said throttling and enlargement merging at a transition where said throttling is maximal.

  • Patent number: 5816528
Abstract: A reel-up in which paper is reeled up on reeling drums to form paper reels, said reel-up having two parallel stand members; a surface winding mechanism in the form of a rotating surface winding drum and/or a belt to carry the web and deliver it to one of said reeling drums or a paper reel formed or being formed thereon; and a secondary system including first and second secondary units for alternate receipt of new reeling drums. Each secondary unit, includes an outer first secondary member and an inner second secondary member, each of the secondary members having a linearly movable secondary body, an actuator for moving the secondary body, and a press device to maintain a predetermined linear pressure in the nip between the surface winding means and the paper reel as it increases in size.
