Patent number: 8485600Abstract: A vehicle seat includes a backrest frame and a seat frame connected to each other to form a seat structure. The seat includes a seat base adapted to be rigidly connected to the frame structure of a vehicle, and which is connected to the seat frame via a seat suspension. The seat further includes a tether which at one of its ends is attached to the seat back at a first, upper attachment point and at its other end attached at a second, lower attachment point in order to improve the strength of the seat in case of an accident. The seat is provided with at least one lever arm on the back side of the seat which shall be used as an attachment point for the tether or as a guide or support for the tether located in between the upper attachment point and the lower attachment point.Type: GrantFiled: February 12, 2008Date of Patent: July 16, 2013Assignee: Volvo Lastvagnar ABInventors: Lars Forsman, Peter Rundberget, Magnus Eriksson, Mario Ligovic

Publication number: 20110204684Abstract: A vehicle seat and the construction of the vehicle seat provide a robust structure which will assure the safety of an occupant in the seat in case of an accident. In particular, a seat having a seat belt of the ‘belt in seat“-kind is provided. The vehicle seat includes a backrest frame and a seat frame connected to each other to form a seat structure. The seat includes further a seat base adapted to be rigidly connected to the frame structure of a vehicle, and the seat base is connected to the seat frame via a seat suspension. The seat further includes a tether which at one of its ends is attached to the back of the seat at a first, upper attachment point and at its other end attached at a second, lower attachment point in order to improve the strength of the seat in case of an accident.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 12, 2008Publication date: August 25, 2011Applicant: Volvo Lastvagnar ABInventors: Lars Forsman, Peter Rundberget, Magnus Eriksson, Mario Ligovic

Patent number: 6837537Abstract: An arrangement F(1,1?,1?) for weakening a structure (4,4?,12?), comprises at least one element (8,28) arranged at the structure (4,4?,12?) to affect its strength, a sensor (9) arranged to sense impact acting on the structure (4,4?,12?) and a control unit (10) disposed to, firstly, receive signals when the signal received from the sensor (9) agrees with a set value. The element (8,28) comprises an explosive charge (11), which is disposed to detonate when the control signal is emitted from the control unit (10). The explosive charge (11) is disposed at the element (8,28) in such a manner that the element (8,28) awakens the strength of the structure (4,4?,12?) when the explosive charge (11) detonates.Type: GrantFiled: December 7, 2001Date of Patent: January 4, 2005Assignee: Volvo Lastvagnar ABInventors: Henrik Ljungquist, Lars Forsman

Patent number: 6799783Abstract: Method and arrangement for providing an underrun protection arrangement for a vehicle (1) having a frame (3), an impact element (7) arranged in a position that corresponds to an anticipated stress from a force, F, in the event of a possible collision with another vehicle (2). At least one link element (8) is also included that is firmly connected to the impact element (7) and is fixed so that it can pivot in relation to the said frame (3). An energy-absorbing element (11) is provided that connects the impact element (7) to the frame (3) and which is designed to compress in the event of a pivoting movement on the part of the impact element (7). At least one locking element (10) is included that is designed to permit the pivoting movement only in the event of a stress acting on the impact element (7) with a force that exceeds a predetermined limit.Type: GrantFiled: October 3, 2003Date of Patent: October 5, 2004Assignee: Volvo Lastvagnar ABInventors: Peter Gollungberg, Lars Forsman, Carl Rohdén
