  • Patent number: 4203436
Abstract: A simple and inexpensive assembly is provided for the purpose of dividing any hollow hypodermic needle into two separated flow conduits and connecting each such conduit with an associated pipe coupling means. The main part of said assembly consists of an elongated tongue member having a first portion dimensioned for insertion into the inner cavity of the needle in sealing contact with the cavity wall and a second portion wider than the first portion and designed to protrude from the rear end of the hypodermic needle when the first portion is inserted in said inner cavity.

  • Patent number: 4190536
Abstract: A dialysis apparatus for regulated blood dialysis includes a dialyser having flow passages for blood and dialysate, respectfully, separated by semipermeable barriers for transferring liquid from the blood to the dialysate, the blood and dialysate being driven through their respective flow passages by individually associated peristaltic pumps mounted on a common shaft and having the same pumping capacity and being respectively disposed on the inlet and outlet sides of the flow passage for dialysate through the dialyser. A tap outlet is provided between the pumps in communication with the passage. The liquid amount tapped off the tap outlet must therefore be equal to the amount of ultrafiltrate extracted from the blood, and thus the latter amount may readily be gauged and supervised.

  • Patent number: 4061031
Abstract: Combination of a flow meter and a bubble trap for blood which has been extracted for extra-corporeal treatment, in particular for dialysis. Said combination comprises a container divided by a vertical partition wall into a vertically elongated inlet chamber having an inlet opening receiving the blood flow to be measured and treated, and an outlet chamber of substantially greater cross-section than the inlet chamber and in liquid communication with an outlet opening. According to the invention, a narrow passage with a substantially smaller cross-section than the inlet opening is provided through the partition wall, preferably near the lower end of the same, causing the liquid level in the elongated inlet chamber to rise substantially above the level of said narrow passage. The difference between the liquid levels in the respective chambers will be an indication of the blood flow rate through the container, a pressure equalization opening being provided through the wall above said liquid levels.
