The process comprises the steps of (i) dissolving racemic 3-amino-5-methoxychroman and L(+)tartaric acid in water to form the tartrate salt; (ii) heating the solution until a clear solution is obtained; and (iii) crystallizing the tartrate salt by allowing the solution to cool to room temperature.
