  • Patent number: 10897641
Abstract: This disclosure relates to displaying notifications for content items on a mobile device to a user. A processor receives meta-data associated with the content item and receives context data indicative of a current context of the mobile device. The processor then determines a first value based on the meta-data, the context data and historical data indicative of historical interactions with historical notifications that are based on the meta-data, the first value being indicative of a current likelihood of the user interacting with a notification that is based on the meta-data. Finally, the processor sends first output data based on the first value to an output module to allow selectively outputting the notification based on the current likelihood. By selectively outputting the notification based on the current likelihood the notification can be withheld until the user is likely to interact with the notification.

  • Patent number: 10827221
Abstract: This disclosure relates to selectively playing a video on a mobile communication device. The device monitors events and upon detecting a trigger event, determines whether to delay the playing of a first video or to attempt to play the first video. Upon determining to delay, the device stores a delay record. The device repeats the above steps to generate multiple delay records. Upon determining to attempt to play the first video, the device displays a user control to allow the user to reject the first video and stores an attempt record. Upon detecting user interaction with the user control element, the device calculates a relationship between the delay records, the attempt record, and the user interaction with the user control element. This allows the device to determine whether to delay the playing of a second video or to play the second video. Upon determining to play the second video, the device plays the second video.

  • Patent number: 10267661
Abstract: This disclosure relates to determining a context of a mobile device. A processor receives from one or more first sensors first sensor data in relation to the context. The processor then selects from multiple second sensors one or more selected sensors based on the first sensor data and based on an energy cost value associated with each of the multiple second sensors, the energy cost value being indicative of energy consumed when requesting data from each of the multiple second sensors. Next, the processor receives from the one or more selected sensors second sensor data and determines the context of the mobile device based on the first sensor data and the second sensor data. This reduces the overall energy consumption and therefore extends the battery life of the mobile device while still providing an accurate context determination.

  • Publication number: 20140282636
Abstract: This invention relates to the prefetching of content items, for example, prefetching of videos, to make the content items accessible from a local data store (118) of the mobile device (112). A processor (114) determines for each of the multiple content items a benefit value associated with an access time. The processor (114) also determines for each of the multiple content items an estimated prefetching cost associated with a prefetching time. Then, the processor (114) selects one of the multiple content items for downloading at the associated prefetching time based on the benefit values and the prefetching cost at the prefetching time. This way, the prefetching can be managed such that the most useful content item which the user will likely access soon are downloaded while at the same time minimising the cost.
