  • Patent number: 12203400
Abstract: Regeneration monitoring of a particulate filter in an exhaust gas system of an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle. Different soot loading stages for the particulate filter are defined. A soot loading of the particulate filter is determined by use of a soot loading model. A soot loading of the particulate filter via a differential pressure measurement across the particulate filter is determined. A regeneration of the particulate filter is initiated when a certain soot loading stage of the particulate filter is reached. A soot discharge from the particulate filter is compared, expected via the soot loading model, to a soot discharge from the particulate filter that is determined via a differential pressure measurement. An error message is outputted when a regeneration stage of the particulate filter, determined by the soot loading model, does not correlate with a regeneration stage that is determined via the differential pressure measurement.

  • Publication number: 20240408530
Abstract: A method for monitoring a particulate filter in an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine. A loading of the particulate filter is determined by a differential pressure measurement between the inlet of the particulate filter and the outlet of the particulate filter. A loading of the particulate filter is modeled by a soot loading model for the particulate filter. A regeneration of the particulate filter is initiated and the particle removal is compared from the particulate filter determined through the differential pressure measurement with the particle removal modeled by the soot loading model. A fault message is initiated if a difference between the calculated particle removal and the measured particle removal exceeds a threshold value. An internal combustion engine having a control unit and an exhaust system for carrying out such a method are also provided.

  • Patent number: 11268421
Abstract: The invention relates to a regeneration air system for an exhaust aftertreatment system of an internal combustion engine and to such an exhaust aftertreatment system. The regeneration air system comprises a regeneration air delivery element, a regeneration air duct, and a regeneration air valve. A sensor system is provided in the regeneration air duct with which a regeneration air mass flow {dot over (m)}SL can be determined exactly. The exhaust aftertreatment system comprises an exhaust system with an exhaust duct in which, in the direction of flow of an exhaust gas through the exhaust duct, a three-way catalytic converter is arranged underhood and a four-way catalytic converter is arranged downstream. A provision is made that an intake point for the regeneration air from the regeneration air system is formed on the exhaust duct downstream from the underhood three-way catalytic converter and upstream from the four-way catalytic converter.
