  • Patent number: 10561508
Abstract: A vacuum suspension system includes a foot cover having a heel portion and a pump system located in the heel portion. The pump system includes upper and lower sections arranged to move in an axial direction relative to one another and a pump mechanism operatively connected to and positioned between the upper and lower sections. When the heel portion is loaded in stance the pump mechanism moves from an original configuration in which the volume of a fluid chamber defined by the pump mechanism is zero or near-zero, to an expanded configuration in which the volume of the fluid chamber is increased.

  • Publication number: 20190240057
Abstract: An orthopedic walker or walking boot has a body formed from at least one polymeric material. The body defines an upper receiving section, a lower receiving section, and a footbed. The upper receiving section includes first and second portions divided by a median plane of the orthopedic walker, and are arranged to individually articulate about or from the median plane to expand or retract a variable distance between the first and second portions of the upper receiving section along one of anterior or posterior sides of the body. The body may consist of the upper receiving section, the lower receiving section, and the footbed as a continuous structure formed unitarily from the expanded thermoplastic.

  • Patent number: 10292454
Abstract: An orthopedic device includes a lateral wedge positionable under a foot of a user. The lateral wedge has posterior and anterior ends, and upper and lower surfaces. First and second sides extend between the upper and lower surfaces. A thickness is defined between the upper and lower surfaces that tapers from the first side toward the second side such that the lateral wedge provides a lift under the foot to unload pressure from an affected compartment of the knee by supporting a one side of the foot in an elevated position relative to the other. At least one trim line extends in a direction between the posterior and anterior ends. The lateral wedge is trimmable along the at least one trim line to vary or control the amount of lift provided by varying the thickness of the lateral wedge along the first side relative to the second side.

  • Publication number: 20190117414
Abstract: Various features for improving the performance of prosthetic sport feet are provided. A fairing for a prosthetic sport foot can include foam components that are coupled to the foot and an elastane cover. The fairing is configured to alter the cross-sectional profile of the foot to produce a more aerodynamic shape. A prosthetic sport foot can include a hollow foot member that can be lighter weight and provide improved performance. A prosthetic sport foot can include an adjustable tension strap extending between and coupled to two portions of the foot member. A prosthetic sport foot, such as a prosthetic running foot or prosthetic cycling foot, can include an aerodynamic fairing and a cover. A prosthetic sport foot can have a varying-width profile such that a mid-section of the foot is narrower and a toe portion flares outward.

  • Publication number: 20190048923
Abstract: A hinge has a hinge body forming an articulating section extending between a first end and a second end of the hinge. The articulating section is adapted to bend from a neutral axis when the first and second ends are parallel to an angular range in which the first end is arranged among a plurality of angles within the angular range relative to the second end. The hinge body may define a receptacle along the articulating section, and an insert may be provided for insertion into the receptacle. The insert can modify the stiffness of the hinge in the angular range and is arranged parallel to the neutral axis.

  • Patent number: 10143268
Abstract: An Achilles heel wedge has a front part, a back part, and a longitudinal axis extending in a longitudinal direction between the front part and the back part. A first wedge section defines a bottom surface and a top surface. The top surface of the first wedge section forms a convex portion curving along the longitudinal axis and extending between side portions of the first wedge section. The convex portion is positionable under the longitudinal arch of a user's foot during use. A second wedge section is removably attachable to the bottom surface of the first wedge section. The second wedge section defines substantially parallel top and bottom surfaces and a ramped edge at or near a front of the second wedge section. The ramped edge extends downwardly and forwardly relative to the first wedge section and the top surface of the second wedge section.

  • Publication number: 20180263793
Abstract: Prosthetic feet and foot covers that provide a more natural appearance and improved performance are provided. A foot element for a prosthetic foot can extend from a heel end to a toe end and include a heel, arch, forefoot, and toe regions. The forefoot region can be wider than the arch and heel regions. The toe region can include a U-shaped cut out to define a big toe. Various features of the foot element can guide rollover of the foot through the big toe during use. A foot cover can be designed to receive a prosthetic foot including such a foot element. The foot cover can have a region of increased flexibility at a transition between the forefoot region and toe region. The foot cover can also have a padded area extending from the heel region across a lateral part of the arch region and forefoot region.

  • Patent number: 9889034
Abstract: An Achilles heel wedge can include a single member having an anterior portion and a plurality of layers integrally connected at the anterior portion. A plurality of slits can differentiate the layers. Each slit can include a terminal end in the anterior portion having a perforation with a dimension greater than a width of the slit. The layers of the heel wedge can be selectively cut, ripped, or torn from the anterior portion of the heel wedge along the perforations to achieve incremental height adjustment of the heel wedge and stretching of the Achilles tendon.
