By a coenzymatic mechanism folic acid effectively accelerates the transformation of a substrate primarily comprising DL-phenylalanine, L-phenylalanine, L-glutamine, and L-tryptophan to met-enkephalin end product. Use of this food supplement enables enkephalins to accumulate within the human hypothalamus, thereby increasing the levels of endogenous opioids.
