  • Patent number: 8194671
Abstract: A method for a cellular communications system (100) with a user (UE, 110) and a hierarchy of nodes between a UE (110) and an external network (150). The hierarchy comprises at least first (125) and second (130) nodes, and there can be a plurality of connections between the UE (110) and the network (150) via data channels (160) between the nodes, and plurality of data containers (170) with data regarding the data channels. A connection between a UE (110) and the external network (150) can be inactivated whilst the corresponding data container (170) is preserved, and an inactivated connection can be reactivated by the external network (150). When a connection is to be reactivated, the second node (130) utilizes information from the external network (150) in order to reactivate the data channel or channels which is/are concerned and which have had their data containers (170) preserved.

  • Patent number: 8144650
Abstract: A method of services request in a packet switched telecommunications network comprising a Gateway GPRS Support Node (GGSN) arranged for communication with a Serving GPRS Support Node (SGSN). During activation of a subscriber session, receiving by the GGSN, from the SGSN in an Update PDP Context Request message, data comprising both 1) an Internet Protocol (IP) address and user plane tunnelling endpoint identifier (TEID) for a Radio Network Controller (RNC) and 2) an IP address and user plane TEID of the SGSN; the GGSN nominally utilizes the IP address and TEID of the RNC for the subscriber session. If an error indication is received by the GGSN indicating that the RNC has restarted, it discards the IP address and TEID corresponding to the RNC and utilizes the IP address and TEID corresponding to the SGSN, whereby the GGSN and SGSN can maintain the subscriber session in the event of an RNC restart.

  • Publication number: 20120071173
Abstract: A method and system for providing a User Equipment (UE) (101) with a Tracking Area Identity (TAI) list during a Tracking Area Update (TAU) procedure. The TAI is UE specific and is based on a visitation history (305) of the UE (101). If a pre-existing visitation history of the UE does not exist, a TAI is compiled using other UEs featuring at least one operational similarity as the current UE (101).

  • Publication number: 20120026884
Abstract: The present invention relates to a solution for handling mobility and attachment of users in a wireless communication network (10). User equipment (1) is connected logically to an attachment node (14) at initial attachment and this attachment is determined from an analysis of stored historical mobility patterns of the user equipment. For instance, a mobility management device may be responsible for handling the attachment and for handling the determination of suitable attachment node, e.g. a gateway (5, 7, 8).

  • Patent number: 8107450
Abstract: A solution in a telecommunications infrastructure network for creating a secondary PDP context for a time critical application, ensuring that no packets are lost by masquerading a primary PDP context as the secondary PDP context. This may be achieved by for instance sending a fake TEID or including a filter in a PDP creation request for the secondary PDP context and updating the GGSN with a correct TEID or a new Traffic Flow Template (TFT) when the secondary PDP context is established.

  • Patent number: 7957376
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method, signal and devices for facilitating distribution of multimedia broadcast multicast services, i.e. MBMS, in a telecommunications network by receiving an MBSM session start message from a broadcast/multicast service center; sending control traffic on a control network; sending as control traffic to a serving node an MBMS session start request message and including a common tunnel end-point identifier, i.e. common TEID, in the MBMS session start request message; receiving information from the serving node indicating the acceptance of using IP multicast; and sending media content on an IP multicast backbone to hosts that have joined the multicast group using the common TEID. If any part of the communication network does not accept the IP multicast backbone as distribution method tunnels will be used between the gateway and serving node and between the serving node and control node.

  • Publication number: 20100061340
Abstract: The present invention relates to a packet data support node (201) with a serving functionality and supporting over at least a first radio access network. It comprises mobility handling means and session handling means. It further comprises detecting means, in communication with said mobility handling means and with said session handling means, which are adapted to detect or establish initiation of a handover of a mobile station from the first or source radio access network. The session handling means are adapted to keep information about support for a direct tunneling functionality between the gateway packet data support node and the first radio access network. The detecting means are adapted to, upon detecting initiation of an HO from a first mode supporting direct tunneling (10) activate initiation of a reset of the direct tunnel and set up of two tunnel tunnels (10A, 10B) replacing said direct tunnel (10), each having a respective end point in the packet data support node.

  • Publication number: 20080102867
Abstract: A system node, and method in a radio telecommunication network for efficiently serving non-compliant mobile terminals (UE/MSs) and core network (CN) nodes without negatively affecting features available to compliant UE/MSs and nodes. A network service node such as an SGSN sends a standardized message to a UE/MS or CN node a reduced number of times while awaiting a response. If a proper response is not received, the SGSN removes “known problem” optional and/or conditional information elements from the message and sends an altered message to the UE/MS or CN node one or more times while awaiting a response. If the UE/MS or CN node responds to the altered message, it receives service with a reduced feature set. The SGSN may store an ID of the UE/MS or CN node in a list of non-compliant UE/MSs or CN nodes. In future sessions, the SGSN may send only the altered message to the UE/MS or CN node.
