  • Patent number: 4452668
Abstract: A method is employed in a press section of a paper machine for changing a pick-up and/or press fabric, the substantial run of which when the fabric is in its normal operating position, passes above a group of nip defining press rollers. Insert members of the machine frame are removed to define gaps therewithin and the press nip or nips through which the fabric passes are open. In the method, upper guide rollers situated within and guiding the loop of the fabric are shifted from an upper operating position occupied thereby when the fabric is in its normal operating position to a lower position and the fabric to be changed is transported with the same being wound in double manner on a changing pole. The fabric is opened and spread out to define a loop which encircles all of the press and guide rollers which will be situated within the fabric loop when the fabric is in its normal operating position.

  • Patent number: 4192711
Abstract: A paper-manufacturing machine and method include the feature of detaching a web from a forming wire by utilizing a stationary transfer suction box past which a felt travels while contacting the web so that the latter becomes detached from the forming wire and adheres to the felt while travelling with the latter beyond the forming wire. The felt and web are lapped through a substantial angle around a roll having a recessed surface whiletravelling toward the first press nip of a press section, and at this roll around which the felt and web are lapped a means is provided for directing steam toward the web and through the latter and the felt inwardly toward the recessed surface of the guide roll so that the flowing steam will on the one hand heat water carried by the web to enhance dewatering of the web at the first press nip while on the other hand the steam will serve to maintain the web reliably in engagement with the felt as the latter travels toward the first press nip.

  • Patent number: 4139410
Abstract: A Yankee paper machine, particularly for the production of MG (machine glazed) paper and creped tissue, in which the formed paper web is sandwiched between a Yankee felt and a lower felt, pressed in a first nip between a suction roll and a dewatering roll, carried on the Yankee felt around the suction roll and pressed in a second nip between the suction roll and a Yankee cylinder. The web is adhered to the Yankee cylinder and the Yankee felt is detached from the web, passed around separate rolls and returned to the web on the Yankee cylinder in a third nip which in which adherance of the web to the Yankee cylinder is assured.

  • Patent number: 4075768
Abstract: A multicylinder dryer, particularly for the drying of a web, includes cylinders located alternately in two rows one above the other, guiding rolls situated between adjacent cylinders in both rows and drying fabrics wrapping the web on said cylinders, the cylinder which is the first in the direction of travel being a lead-on cylinder, the other cylinders being heated drying cylinders of equal diameters.

  • Patent number: 4014740
Abstract: A structure for bringing about transfer of a paper web from the press section to the drying section of a paper machine during travel of an initial portion of a web from the press section to the drying section as well as subsequently when the travel of the web between these sections has become stabilized. A pair of rolls are situated between the last roll of the press section and the first roll of the drying section to support and guide the web during travel thereof between the press section and drying section. In addition, a weighting roll is provided to cooperate with that one of the above pair of rolls which is nearer to the drying section to define with the latter roll a nip through which an initial portion of the web travels until the operating conditions have become stabilized.
