In one version, a non-replaceable HID lamp has leads permanently connected to the instant ON circuitry.     Abstract: The present subject matter is directed to a lighting control system and method. Motion or occupancy sensors are used to determine when a lighting fixture and/or a nearby lighting fixture should be activated. A controller associated with each lighting fixture switches its lighting fixture on and triggers a communications circuit to generate and send a signal to nearby lighting fixtures when a user is detected. Each lighting fixture also has a signal receiver to receive signals from any nearby lighting fixtures that are configured to communicate with it via a communication circuit. The present subject matter allows for a significant amount of energy to be saved as remote areas away from an occupied area do not have to be illuminated. Meanwhile, the user is still provided with a comfortable level of lighting in and near the occupied area.

    Abstract: A lighting system and method for controlling illumination of the same upon detection of a user in at least one of a first detection area and a second detection area. The lighting system can include a lighting fixture having one or more lighting sources and at least two sensors associated with separate detection areas. Each sensor can send a signal to a controller associated with the lighting fixture, and the controller can be configured to vary the illumination of one or more of the lighting sources depending on the each sensor's detection area. The present subject matter facilitates energy savings since areas away from an occupied area are not illuminated. Communication between neighboring lighting fixtures is not required since each lighting fixture can detect the presence of a user in an area proximate an adjacent lighting fixture in order to trigger illumination of the lighting fixture.

    Abstract: This disclosure features fluorescent lamps that include a phosphor layer including at least one phosphor, which in the past has not been commercially usable in lamps or in some cases suffers from performance problems such as poor brightness. These problems of the phosphors were caused, for example, by mercury ion bombardment or exposure to 185 nm radiation from the discharge. These problems are expected to be avoided by coating particles of one or more of the phosphors, such as using atomic layer deposition in which the coating is not more than 500 nm in thickness. Examples of phosphors that can be coated are yttrium vanadate activated with europium or yttrium vanadate phosphate activated with europium. The coating can be selected from the group consisting of alumina, yttria, lanthanum oxide, magnesium aluminate spinel, magnesium oxide and combinations thereof.

    Abstract: A lighting device combined with an air purification feature is disclosed. At least one function of the device is to provide high quality directional light for general lighting purposes. An additional function is to decompose VOCs and/or destroy microbes in the ambient air. The heat generated by white LEDs is utilized to generate air flow through the device. The geometry is designed to utilize the chimney effect and maximize volumetric flow. The circulated air is purified by a photocatalytic layer applied to the interior surface of the device. The lighting device can be built into pendant luminaires or lamps, thus ensuring vertical orientation of the light module. The exemplary embodiments may be applied in public places, hospitals, ward rooms, and other locations where a cost effective disinfection method is needed.

Phosphors of formula I may be blended with other blue, yellow, orange, green, and red phosphors to yield white light phosphor blends. A lighting apparatus including such a luminescent material is also presented. The light apparatus includes a light source in addition to the luminescent material.

    Abstract: The invention relates to an electron emission material for use in fluorescent lamps that releases a significantly reduced amount of decomposition material, predominantly CO2, during in-lamp heat-treatment. Consequently, there is a significant reduction in the amount of electrode decomposition-related contaminants in the lamp. In addition, the emission material of the invention requires a much lower temperature in-lamp heat-treatment during manufacturing than that of conventional lamps of the same type. The invention, while described herein for use primarily with fluorescent lamps, has broader application to any device where the primary means of electron emission is of the thermionic type.
