Publication number: 20220392342Abstract: Methods and systems are described for generating a vehicle-to-vehicle traffic alert and updating a vehicle-usage profile. Various aspects include detecting, via one or more processors associated with a first vehicle, that an abnormal traffic condition exists in an operating environment of the first vehicle. An electronic message is generated and transmitted wirelessly, via a vehicle-mounted transceiver associated with the first vehicle, to alert a nearby vehicle of the abnormal traffic condition and to allow the nearby vehicle to avoid the abnormal traffic condition. The first vehicle receives telematics data regarding operation of the nearby vehicle after the nearby vehicle received the electronic message, and transmits the telematics data to a remote server for updating a vehicle-usage profile associated with the nearby vehicle.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 15, 2022Publication date: December 8, 2022Inventors: Brian Mark Fields, Steven C. Cielocha, Jacob J. Alt, Laura A. Uphoff, Leo Nelson Chan, Mohamed A. Wazeer, Kristopher Keith Gaudin, Justin Davis Davis, Nathan W. Baumann, Giles Roll

Publication number: 20210272207Abstract: Systems and methods are described for determining a driving score for an individual and updating a related vehicle-usage profile. The system and methods may include one or more processors, sensors, or transceivers to determine that an individual associated with an auto insurance policy is located in a driver seat of a vehicle for a vehicle trip. Telematics data may be collected from the sensors that indicates a time of day and an amount of time that the individual typically drives the vehicle. The telematics may be associated with the individual and a driving score for the individual may be determined. A vehicle-usage profile for the vehicle may then be updated with the telematics data or the driving score. The vehicle-usage profile may indicate a driving behavior of the individual and an auto insurance policy may be updated based on the profile.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 19, 2016Publication date: September 2, 2021Inventors: Brian Mark Fields, Steven C. Cielocha, Jacob J. Alt, Laura A. Uphoff, Leo Nelson Chan, Mohamed A. Wazeer, Kristopher Keith Gaudin, Justin Davis, Nathan W. Baumann, Giles Roll

Patent number: 11107365Abstract: Methods and systems are described regarding vehicular driver evaluation. Various aspects may include monitoring a vehicle operating environment in which a vehicle is operating. A target vehicle operating within the vehicle operating environment may be identified based upon sensor data from one or more sensors associated with the vehicle. An indication of an identity of the target vehicle may be recorded and an indication of an evaluation of an operation of the target vehicle may be received by the operator of the vehicle. The indication of the evaluation of the operation of the target vehicle may indicate the quality of operation of the target vehicle. The indication of the identity of the target vehicle and the indication of the evaluation of the operation of the target vehicle may be transmitted to a remote server.Type: GrantFiled: August 19, 2016Date of Patent: August 31, 2021Assignee: STATE FARM MUTUAL AUTOMOBILE INSURANCE COMPANYInventors: Brian Mark Fields, Steven C. Publication number: 20210258486Abstract: Systems and methods are described for performing vehicular collision reconstruction and battery conservation for an electric or battery-powered vehicle. In various aspects, an indication of a trigger event may be detected from computer analysis of telematics data gathered by one or more sensors associated with a vehicle. The trigger event may be associated with a vehicle collision. A camera mounted on the vehicle may be activated, based upon the indication of the trigger event, to acquire an image of a second vehicle associated with the vehicle collision. Image data associated with the image may then be transmitted to a remote server computer for analysis of the image data, in which the remove server is capable of generating from the image data, a reconstruction of the vehicle collision, and determining, from the reconstruction of the vehicle collision, a cause of loss associated with the vehicle collision.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 19, 2016Publication date: August 19, 2021Inventors: Brian Mark Fields, Steven C. Cielocha, Jacob J. Alt, Laura A. Uphoff, Leo Nelson Chan, Mohamed A. Wazeer, Kristopher Keith Gaudin, Justin Davis, Nathan W. Baumann, Giles Roll

Publication number: 20210166323Abstract: Systems and methods are described for determining an average travel environment associated with a vehicle and for generating a related risk profile. In various aspects telematics data may be received via wireless communication over one or more radio links from a computing device traveling with a vehicle. An average travel environment, that can account for an average amount of pedestrian traffic or an average amount of vehicle traffic that the vehicle typically travels in, may be determined from processor analysis of the telematics data. The average travel environment may be used to generate a risk profile. An auto insurance policy option may be generated based upon the risk profile auto and transmitted via wireless communication to the computing device to facilitate an insured's review and approval of the auto insurance policy option that is provided based upon a risk associated with the average travel environment.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 19, 2016Publication date: June 3, 2021Inventors: Brian Mark Fields, Steven C. Cielocha, Jacob J. Alt, Laura A. Uphoff, Leo Nelson Chan, Mohamed A. Wazeer, Kristopher Keith Gaudin, Justin Davis, Nathan W. Baumann, Giles Roll

Patent number: 10977945Abstract: Methods and systems are disclosed for providing vehicular driver alerts. In various aspects a vehicle operating environment may be monitored by one or more sensors associated with a first vehicle operating within the vehicle operating environment. The first vehicle may be determined to be in proximity to a second vehicle based upon sensor data obtained from the one or more sensors. An identifier associated with the second vehicle may be determined based upon the sensor data and the identifier may be used to receive evaluation data associated with the second vehicle. The evaluation data may indicate a quality level associated with operation of the second vehicle. Based upon the evaluation data, it may be determined that the second vehicle is associated with a heightened risk of a vehicle accident. A warning regarding the heighted risk may be generated and presented, by an output device, to a vehicle operator of the first vehicle.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 2020Date of Patent: April 13, 2021Assignee: STATE FARM MUTUAL AUTOMOBILE INSURANCE COMPANYInventors: Brian Mark Fields, Steven C. Patent number: 10950065Abstract: Systems and methods for monitoring the use of a shared vehicle are described. In various aspects, telematics data regarding operation of a shared vehicle is collected from one or more sensors, where the shared vehicle is associated with a shared vehicle operator and a shared vehicle stakeholder. One or more processors determine whether a driving event has occurred based upon the telematics data, where the driving event is indicative of improper usage of the shared vehicle by the shared vehicle operator. The one or more processors generate a notification regarding the driving event. The notification includes a driver rating determined from the telematics data regarding operation of the shared vehicle by the shared vehicle operator. The notification is transmitted, via a network, to the shared vehicle stakeholder for presentation to the shared vehicle stakeholder.Type: GrantFiled: February 4, 2019Date of Patent: March 16, 2021Assignee: STATE FARM MUTUAL AUTOMOBILE INSURANCE COMPANYInventors: Brian Mark Fields, Steven C.
