Publication number: 20220383323Abstract: A payment and authentication network may include a communications interface, one or more processors, and a memory. The memory may have instructions stored thereon that, when executed by the one or more processors cause the one or more processors to receive, using the communications interface, transaction information associated with a transaction from a merchant system and generate a fraud risk score based on the transaction information. The instructions may cause the one or more processors to determine that the fraud risk score is indicative that the transaction is likely fraudulent and transmit an alert to a user device that informs a user of the user device that the transaction is likely fraudulent prior to generating an approval decision for the transaction.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 25, 2022Publication date: December 1, 2022Applicant: Early Warning Services, LLCInventors: Chris Burke, Nagaraj Kollar, Jacob Bellman, Ronald Scott Alcorn, Jie He, Laura E. Patent number: 10878387Abstract: A method including: providing a processing mechanism in data communication through a network with a first entity and a plurality of depository financial institutions; receiving a first inquiry at the processing mechanism through the network from the first entity; storing the first inquiry received from the first entity; sending a second inquiry from the processing mechanism through the network to the second entity in real time after receiving the first inquiry; receiving a first response at the processing mechanism through the network from the second entity; storing the first response received from the second entity; and sending a second response from the processing mechanism through the network to the first entity in real time after receiving the first response. Other embodiments are provided.Type: GrantFiled: March 23, 2015Date of Patent: December 29, 2020Assignee: EARLY WARNING SERVICES, LLCInventor: Laura E. Weinflash

Patent number: 10846662Abstract: A method including receiving a first inquiry through a network from a first entity. The method also can include determining a routing decision in real time of whether or not to route the first inquiry to a second entity. The method further can include, if the routing decision is to not route the first inquiry to the second entity: sending a first response through the network to the first entity in real time after receiving the first inquiry; sending a second inquiry through the network to the second entity in real time after receiving the first inquiry. The second inquiry can be based at least in part on the first inquiry; receiving a second response through the network from the second entity. The second response can be sent by the second entity in real time in response to receiving the second inquiry; storing the second response received from the second entity; sending a third response through the network to the first entity in real time after receiving the second response. Other embodiments are disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: December 29, 2017Date of Patent: November 24, 2020Assignee: EARLY WARNING SERVICES, LLCInventor: Laura E. Weinflash

Publication number: 20180189870Abstract: A plurality of banks of first deposit provide checking account activity data for both transit items (checks received for deposit that need to be cleared) and incoming returns (bounced checks) to a statistical model which determines from the data the likelihood that a check from a specific checking account will be returned. This data is used to populate a database of checking accounts to be used for making check risk decisions, such as check hold policy decisions, check acceptance decisions, and open to buy decisions.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 30, 2017Publication date: July 5, 2018Inventors: Laura E. Weinflash, Larry W. Spooner

Publication number: 20180082368Abstract: Transfers of money into a recipient account are analyzed for risk of fraud by using a fraud monitoring system to analyze characteristics of the recipient account. The recipient account characteristics are stored in a central database, which has account data (for recipient accounts) contributed from a plurality of financial institutions that maintain such accounts. When a transfer is made or attempted, the stored characteristics of the recipient account are analyzed and a risk score is assigned to the transfer based on the recipient account. If the risk score indicates a suspicious or fraudulent transaction, an alert is provided. In an alternative embodiment, the risk analysis may be supplemented by analysis of transaction data association with the transfer.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 29, 2017Publication date: March 22, 2018Inventors: Laura E. Weinflash, Janis E. Simm, Jinghong Qi

Publication number: 20130013491Abstract: A method and system for reducing fraud by detecting duplicate financial transactions in a financial transaction processing system. In various embodiments, financial institutions can be alerted when a financial instrument such as a check is being tendered for deposit, wherein a previous deposit for that same instrument had previously been submitted at the same or a different financial institution. The system and method provide for detection of deposits of checks after remote deposit of the same check had been previously performed (for example by submitting a digital image of the check). Deposit of duplicate counterfeit paper checks issued to multiple parties can also be detected and mitigated.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 19, 2012Publication date: January 10, 2013Applicant: Early Warning Sevices, LLCInventors: Anthony J.
