  • Patent number: 9825961
Abstract: A user interface is used to assign different devices and device types to media services where the number of different devices and device types that are capable of being assigned is determined by access privilege information corresponding to such media services. When a number of devices of a specific type are assigned where such a number exceeds a limit specified in the access privilege information, the assignment of additional devices of that specific type is halted.

  • Publication number: 20160029098
Abstract: A method for generating recommendations for a group of users is disclosed. The method includes providing a display of a plurality of user representations respectively representing users; receiving a selection of at least two of the user representations to form a group; providing a display of at least one recommendation for a media asset after the group has been formed; and providing a display of an indicator indicating that a user representation in the group is selected as an allowed user representation in the group for selecting one of the at least one recommendation for receipt by user devices respectively associated with the user representations in the group.

  • Patent number: 8136007
Abstract: A system and method for adaptive error correction that optimizes bandwidth by taking into account expected, or predicted, interferences. The bandwidth used for error correction is applied judiciously based on the value of the content and the need to receive the content the first time it is broadcast. The present invention further applies local optimizations in the case of spot-beam satellite broadcasts. As each spot corresponds to a particular geographic region, different input parameters may be used, thereby maximizing efficiency.

  • Patent number: 8112779
Abstract: A method for validating antenna installation to a broadcast provider to ensure proper alignment of the antenna with the broadcast provider's satellite system. The feedback provided by the customer, the installer, and signal strength and quality information communicated from the receiver to the broadcast provider are used to confirm proper installation. Upon confirmation of proper installation, the data can be used to troubleshoot equipment, or issue payment to the installer.

  • Patent number: 7707609
Abstract: Quasi on-demand programming is dynamically scheduled in a broadcast television network to improve customer service, enhance programming flexibility and increase the value proposition of the service provider. A Program Offer including a “delivery window” for each program and an initial Playlist for broadcasting regular, PPV and offered programming are created. Customer demand for individual programs in the offering is surveyed. This information is used to reoptimize the Playlist prior to broadcast and to update a “rolling” Program Offer to better manage network capacity and improve custom satisfaction.

  • Patent number: 7661119
Abstract: A system and method for providing program guide information to subscribers is disclosed. In one embodiment, the method is applied to a satellite broadcasting system having a first satellite broadcasting a first signal having a first set of program material and first program guide information describing at least a portion of said set of program material, and a second satellite broadcasting a second signal having a second set of program material and second program guide information describing at least a portion of said second set of program material, wherein the first broadcast signal and the second broadcast signal each include service channels uniquely described by a service channel identifier.

  • Patent number: 7191461
Abstract: A system and method for adapting program guides to meet subscriber criteria, and for providing program guide information to selected subscribers based upon subscriber criteria such as the subscriber's location within a market area is disclosed. In one embodiment, the method is applied to a system broadcasting a first signal having service channels, each of which service channels is uniquely described by a service channel identifier. The application of the method provides second program guide information describing a second set of programs only to a subset of the plurality of receiver stations that comply with at least one service criteria.

  • Patent number: 6922844
Abstract: A system and method for providing program guide information to subscribers is disclosed. In one embodiment, the method is applied to a broadcasting system having a plurality of service networks, each broadcasting a set of programs and program guide information describing at least a portion of the set of programs. The method comprises the steps of determining a receiver station configuration; receiving a first program guide information at the receiver station, the first program guide information comprising a default transmitting network identifier value uniquely identifying the service network transmitting the first program guide information; and generating a first program guide from the first program guide information and presenting the first program guide, according to a comparison between the determined receiving station configuration and the default transmitting network identifier.
