  • Patent number: 8377857
Abstract: A method of lubricating a cylinder liner and a crankcase in a marine diesel crosshead engine with the same lubricating oil composition. The lubricating oil composition has a TBN, as measured using ASTM D 2896-98, of 10 to 55 mg KOH/g. The lubricating oil composition comprises: at least 40 mass % of an oil of lubricating viscosity; at least one detergent; at least one dispersant; and at least one anti-wear additive.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 24, 2006
Date of Patent: February 19, 2013
    Assignee: Infineum International Limited
    Inventors: Laurent Chambard, Laura Kosidowski
  • Publication number: 20080255013
Abstract: Use of an oil-soluble hydrocarbyl phenol aldehyde condensate as an antiwear additive in a lubricating oil composition. The oil-soluble hydrocarbyl phenol aldehyde condensate has the following structure: wherein n is 0 to 10, preferably 1 to 8, more preferably 2 to 6, and most preferably 3 to 5; Y is a divalent bridging group, and is preferably a hydrocarbyl group, preferably having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms; and R is a hydrocarbyl group having from 4 to 30, preferably 8 to 18, and most preferably 9 to 15 carbon atoms.

  • Publication number: 20080070818
Abstract: A lubricating oil composition including at least one sulphurized overbased metal phenate detergent prepared from a C9-C15 alkyl phenol, at least one sulphurizing agent, at least one metal and at least one overbasing agent. The detergent includes less than 6.0% by combined mass of unsulphurized C9-C15 alkyl phenol and its unsulphurized metal salt. The lubricating oil composition exhibits an improved rate of acid neutralization.

  • Publication number: 20040106527
Abstract: This invention relates to a lubricating oil composition used in conjunction with a gasoline fuel having a sulphur content of less than 10 ppm by weight, characterised in that said oil composition has a phosphorus content of no more than 0.05% by weight. The feature of the invention is that the use of a low sulphur fuel enables the amount of anti-wear agents containing phosphorus such as eg ZDDP to be halved without any adverse effect on the anti-wear performance of the lubricating oil.
