    Abstract: A multicoat coating system that does not contain a primer layer over an electrodeposition coating layer. Even in the absence of the primer layer, the electrodeposition coating layer is protected from ultraviolet light by a basecoat layer that contains a UV blocking composition comprising at least two of carbon black, iron oxide, titanium dioxide, and an aluminum pigment or mixtures of any these.
