  • Patent number: 8496800
Abstract: Methods are disclosed for reducing the shift in EMF bias in a magnesium ion selective electrode, comprising the step of: contacting the electrode with a composition comprising a polyoxyalkylene nonionic surfactant; wherein the polyoxyalkylene nonionic surfactant has an HLB greater than about 18. Additional aspects of the present invention are directed to methods, comprising the steps of: contacting a magnesium ion selective electrode with a composition comprising a polyoxyalkylene nonionic surfactant, wherein the polyoxyalkylene nonionic surfactant has an HLB greater than about 18; and measuring a biologically relevant level of a blood electrolyte in a blood composition with the electrode. In certain embodiments, the polyoxyalkylene nonionic surfactant is polyoxy ethylene (100) stearyl ether and the blood electrolyte is magnesium ion.

  • Patent number: 6150128
Abstract: It has been found that imidazole and related buffers enhance the activity of certain preservatives, for example either (1) a mixture of 5-chloro-2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one and 2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one or (2) 5-bromo-5-nitro-1,3-dioxane, that are used in clinical diagnostic reagents. It has also been found that these buffers and certain surfactants, such as Brij 700 and related hydrophilic surfactants, enhance the precision and accuracy of enzyme biosensors.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 9, 1997
Date of Patent: November 21, 2000
    Assignee: Bayer Corporation

  • Patent number: 5346832
Abstract: A method is described for measuring the amount of analyte present in a sample containing the analyte using a homogeneous amperometric immunoassay. The analyte is chemically bonded to a suitable carrier molecule, which is also chemically bonded to an electroactive molecule. The electroactive molecule, such as ferrocene carboxylic acid, contains a redox center which is capable of transferring a charge to an electrode. A preferred carrier molecule is bovine serum albumin (BSA), while suitable analytes include digoxin, theophylline and HCG. The immunoassay is conveniently performed by applying a voltage to a set of electrodes.

Date of Patent: September 13, 1994
    Assignee: Ciba Corning Diagnostics Corp.
Inventors: Masuo Aizawa, Brenda D. Manning, Miki Hidaka, Laura S. Uretsky
  • Patent number: 5198367
Abstract: A method is described for measuring the amount of analyte present in a sample containing the analyte using a homogeneous amperometric immunoassay. The analyte is covalently bonded to a suitable carrier molecule, which is also covalently bonded to an electroactive molecule.

  • Patent number: 4956299
Abstract: The present invention relates to a novel method for stabilizing aqueous solutions of serum complement for extended periods of time and the resultant stabilized complement solutions. More particularly, morphilino buffering compounds and tris-hydroxymethyl buffering compounds have been used to make aqueous buffers with a pH between about 6.5 and 8.5 and a concentration of greater than 0.01M. These buffers have been found to extend the normal life of complement solutions to unexpectedly longer periods.
