  • Patent number: 4690698
Abstract: A method of removing low vapor pressure liquid contaminants, including polychlorinated biphenyls, from flowing gas streams. The gas stream is directed through a series of distinct gas-liquid separation stages, with each stage constructed to physically remove successively smaller concentrations of liquid contaminants from the stream. Within each stage, the contaminants are coalesced, then collected in a suitable solvent, present in sufficient quantity to preclude re-entrance of the contaminant into the flow system.

  • Patent number: 4583998
Abstract: Gas conditioning glycol and alkanolamine solutions are treated for removal of gases and emulsified oils by passing the solution through a separator apparatus including an elongated cylindrical pressure vessel having a settling compartment with a length to diameter ratio of at least 6.0. The level of the liquid to be treated is maintained at approximately the horizontal centerline of the vessel by an oil overflow weir which decants the separated oil layer from the carrier liquid. The oil layer flows into a reservoir and is discharged from the vessel under the control of a level-controlled motor operated valve. The oil-conditioning liquid interface is controlled by an adjustable weir in the vessel disposed downwstream of the oil reservoir. A gas collection dome is disposed over the oil reservoir and includes mist separator pads for separating condensed liquids entrained in the separated gas. The incoming feedstream is controlled to limit the viscosity to 8.

  • Patent number: 4427420
Abstract: The present invention makes use of spent or loaded process liquid at relatively high pressure to power a pump for recirculation of regenerated process liquid for gas contact in a relatively high pressure gas-liquid contact apparatus. In this manner, the power fluid used for recirculation supplies about 65% of the pumping energy requirements and the remaining 35% of the needed pumping energy is supplied by an externally powered pump, such as an electric motor-driven or engine powered pump. In accordance with the present invention, the power end of the fluid-power pump is flooded with liquid at all times so that no free gas is used. The extra volume of liquid used for pumping is regenerated and pumped back to the contactor by an externally powered pump, for example, a plunger-type, electrically-driven or engine-driven pump.
