Abstract: Systems and methods for providing spoken messages that reflect event status of one or more hazard detection systems within a smart-home environment are described herein. The messages can inform occupants in concise manner that does not overload cognitive recognition of those occupants. For example, the messages may be prioritized to limit the amount of information that is spoken and intelligently condense information in as concise a manner as possible. This may be accomplished by using one or more speaking paradigms to compile audible messages to be played back through a speaker of the hazard detection system.

Abstract: A controller is provided for coordinated control of various subsystems, such as a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) subsystem, a camera subsystem, and a security subsystem, in a structure such as a home, by allowing automatic as well as manual changes to be made to the subsystems within their respective constraints. The controller may change the states or settings of the subsystems automatically upon occurrences of certain conditions, or allow the user to change them by switching a structure mode for the subsystems between a home mode and an away mode. A change in the structure mode may effect changes to some or all of the states or settings for some or all of the subsystems.

Abstract: A computing device is associated with one or more electronic devices in a smart home environment, the smart home environment having a plurality of environment statuses. A current environment status of the plurality of environment statuses is identified for the smart home environment. Based on the current environment status of the smart home environment, one of a plurality of different feature sets is determined for a smart home application executable on the computing device for interacting with the smart home environment. The determined feature set includes selectable commands for performing device functions associated with the current environment status. The determined feature set is provided to an instance of the smart home application, thereby enabling the instance to offer user interactions consistent with the selectable commands.

Abstract: Systems and methods for self-administering test to verify operation of various components within a hazard detection system are described herein. Users may be able interact with their mobile devices to control and monitor the results of test being administered by the hazard detection system. The mobile device may receive status updates from a central server that receives data from one or more hazard detection systems within a structure. The status information may be displayed on the user's device to inform the user of potential issues that any of his or her hazard detection systems may have.
