Patent number: 4375808Abstract: A method of making a solar heat energy collecting system which comprises: forming a potentially foamable, resinous base layer containing a blowing agent; applying a printing composition to the surface of the potentially foamable, resinous base layer in the form of at least one continuous path extending from one edge point to another edge point of the potentially foamable, resinous base layer, the printing composition comprising a blowing inhibitor and a release agent; applying a top surface layer to the surface of the printed potentially foamable, resinous base layer which adheres thereto except in those areas containing the blowing inhibitor and release agent; heating the potentially foamable, resinous base layer to decompose or to activate the blowing agent in those portions of the potentially foamable, resinous base layer not lying under the blowing inhibitor and release agent, whereby such portions are blown and expand to extend and stretch upwardly so as to form upright walls of foamed, relatively lowerType: GrantFiled: August 29, 1980Date of Patent: March 8, 1983Assignee: Congoleum CorporationInventors: Alan A. Graham, Laurence F. Haemer, Charles H. Miller

Patent number: 4298646Abstract: A method of making a differential gloss product which comprises: forming a gelled, potentially foamable, base resinous material; printing thereon a predetermined pattern, some portions containing a urethane polymerization catalyst and either the same or other portions containing a foaming inhibitor; applying to the printed pattern a resinous wear layer; gelling the resinous wear layer and foaming and fusing the resinous materials; applying a urethane coating composition containing no urethane polymerization catalyst to the resinous wear layer; heating to polymerize the portions of the urethane coating composition lying directly over the portions containing the urethane polymerization catalyst to create interspersed high gloss polymerized surfaces; dusting onto the entire surface of the urethane coating composition a powdered particulate or granular material containing a urethane polymerization catalyst; removing the excess particulate or granular materials from the interspersed, polymerized, high gloss areas;Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 1980Date of Patent: November 3, 1981Assignee: Congoleum CorporationInventors: Laurence F. Haemer, Theodore Kimak

Patent number: 4066813Abstract: A method of inhibiting or reducing the undesirable growth properties of a resilient flooring product having a fibrous cellulosic backing which comprises: substantially uniformly incorporating in the fibrous cellulosic backing of a resilient flooring product from about 0.05% by weight to about 4% by weight, based on the weight of the fibrous cellulosic backing, of a growth inhibitor from the group consisting of alums, aluminum sulfate, and mixtures thereof; and installing the resilient flooring product on a surface coated with a water-based adhesive while the fibrous cellulosic backing contains such percentages of the growth inhibitor, whereby undesirable growth, swelling, buckling or the appearance of bubbles in the resilient flooring product is inhibited or reduced, even when the installation takes place at low relative humidity conditions below about 50% relative humidity.Type: GrantFiled: February 4, 1977Date of Patent: January 3, 1978Assignee: Congoleum CorporationInventors: Donald C. Winters, Laurence F. Haemer, William H. Powell

Patent number: 4036673Abstract: A method for installing a sheet of surface covering material on a substrate surface comprising depositing a quantity of a foamed adhesive to the substrate surface, laying the sheet on the adhesive, applying pressure to the sheet so as to spread the adhesive and cause the adhesive to conform to any irregularities of the substrate surface, and allowing the adhesive to dry, thereby bonding the sheet to the substrate surface. Also disclosed is a packaged foamable adhesive for use with this method.Type: GrantFiled: March 18, 1976Date of Patent: July 19, 1977Assignee: Congoleum CorporationInventors: Robert E. J. Murphy, Laurence F. Haemer, Edward C. Scholl

Patent number: 4015036Abstract: A method for producing carpeting of a type having pile yarns adhesively bonded to a backing which comprises providing a thin flexible core member having longitudinal and transverse axes, winding a continuous yarn around the core member in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal axis so as to form a plurality of elongated loops conforming to the cross-sectional configuration of the core member, positioning the core member having the yarn wound thereon on a backing sheet so that the longitudinal axis is parallel to the sheet and the transverse axis is perpendicular to the sheet and so that one end of each of the loops contacts the backing sheet, adhering the end of the loops contacting the backing sheet to the backing sheet, cutting the other ends of the loops, and removing the core member. Carpeting characterized by good register between different colors and different heights with a high degree of flexibility in the design pattern is obtained by this method.Type: GrantFiled: February 17, 1976Date of Patent: March 29, 1977Assignee: Congoleum CorporationInventor: Laurence F. Haemer
