  • Publication number: 20040215980
Abstract: A method of authorizing a user at a location is disclosed. A user data input device is used for receiving of user information. In dependence upon stored policy data, a location of the workstation and other characteristics thereof, an authorization method for the user is determined. In the authorization method, the user is first identified with the security server and then optionally authorized thereby. The stored policy data results in different determined methods for different authorization procedures based upon the user data and the characteristic of the user data input device and the workstation.

  • Publication number: 20030202687
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for detecting a latent fingerprint image provided to a biometric input device of a fingerprint based security system. First and second images of the fingerprint are captured during a time period interval &Dgr;t. At least one of the first and second images are analyzed to identify an extractable feature within a global reference frame, the extractable feature useable for authenticating an individual. The first and second images are compared one with the other to determine differences indicative of motion about the identified extractable feature within a local reference frame during the time period interval &Dgr;t. Absent motion about the identified extractable feature being detected, the fingerprint is registered as a latent fingerprint and cannot be used to authenticate the individual who is seeking authorization.

  • Publication number: 20030189481
Abstract: In a remote keyless system, a fob is disclosed, which provides the user with selective control of elements in a property in concert with a controller at the property, while the fob is nearby the property. In one example the fob is a wireless portable biometric terminal, which accepts a biometric information having been presented by a user. A transducer generates a digital data based on the biometric information. A data store receives and stores the digital data generated by the transducer. A transmitter is responsive to the digital data having been stored in the data store for broadcasting a signal, at a predetermined frequency and modulated by the stored digital data for reception by the controller, after an interval of time corresponding to a time for the user carrying the wireless portable biometric terminal to have traveled a distance, such that the user may present a predetermined biometric characteristic at a convenient place and time prior to the time of a consequent effect thereof at said property.

  • Publication number: 20030068072
Abstract: An improved method and system for reading and analyzing fingerprints is disclosed. According to the present invention, fingerprints are scanned and then analyzed to determine a value in dependence upon a predetermined acquisition parameter, such as for instance one of a moisture content of the fingertip and an applied fingertip pressure. The scanned fingerprint is subsequently processed to remove “false minutiae” in dependence upon the determined value, whilst retaining authentic minutiae for user authentication. Processing the fingertip to determine a condition thereof prior to image processing results in a more selective removal of minutiae, thus resulting in a larger set of minutiae being retained for comparison to a stored biometric template.

  • Patent number: 6498861
Abstract: A method of registering biometric data is disclosed wherein a registration profile is formed of those templates that have a likelihood of registering with the biometric data that is within predetermined limits. The profile is then compared against one or more other profiles to determine an individual most likely to have said profile. That individual is then identified. • Patent number: 6259805
Abstract: A method of registering biometric data is disclosed wherein a number of instances of input biometric data are accepted from a new user during a registration process. Each of these data samples are compared against existing templates to identify those templates posing a significant risk of confusion with a data sample. Those templates are identified and information relating to those templates is stored with the enrolled template of the new user. When a user is identified as the new user, the system automatically verifies that the data sample does not also result in identification as one of the identified templates.
