Patent number: 11822193Abstract: A portable information handling system housing integrates a display having an edge-to-edge presentation of visual images at a housing portion with an inactive portion of a display panel along a perimeter of the display having a sensor region that provides access to underlying sensors through the display. A sealant and black matrix disposed in the inactive region limits illumination that escapes from an active region and provides an aesthetically appealing edge-to-edge appearance. Openings in the sealant and black matrix at the sensor locations provides access through the display, such as with index matching resin that passes illumination and a patterned covering of the black matrix.Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 2021Date of Patent: November 21, 2023Assignee: Dell Products L.P.Inventors: Mark A. Schwager, Laurent Andrew Regimbal, HongJi Huang

Publication number: 20230146766Abstract: A cooling system for an information handling system in a portable chassis comprises a vapor chamber for transferring heat away from components, a porous heat exchanger for receiving heat from the vapor chamber, an air pump of receiving airflow at a first air pressure and generating a second airflow at a second air pressure greater than the first airflow. The porous heat exchanger may comprise one of a plurality of sides of an internal air chamber configured to allow the air pump to generate the second air pressure two to three orders of magnitude greater than the first air pressure. An air pump such as a piezoelectric air pump can generate airflow at a pressure that is two to three orders of magnitude greater than possible using a traditional blower.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 10, 2021Publication date: May 11, 2023Inventors: Travis C. North, John T. Morrison, Laurent Andrew Regimbal

Publication number: 20230142970Abstract: A method for manufacturing a polarizer film assembly for a display assembly in an information handling system comprises forming a mask on a base film substrate and creating a set of optical targets on the base film substrate prior to applying the dye to the base film substrate. The dye adheres to unmasked areas to form a polarizer film, but the mask prevents the dye from adhering to masked areas, forming a set of non-polarized areas. The set of optical targets may include fiducials for aligning a cutter to the base film substrate for cutting the borders of the base layer substrate such that the polarizer film assembly forms a continuous surface with non-polarized areas positioned relative to a camera or other optical sensor.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 10, 2021Publication date: May 11, 2023Inventors: Laurent Andrew Regimbal, Mark Andrew Schwager

Publication number: 20230011051Abstract: A portable information handling system housing integrates a display having an edge-to-edge presentation of visual images at a housing portion with an inactive portion of a display panel along a perimeter of the display supported by a backplate flange extension region that extends from a backlight outer perimeter associated with an active area of the display panel to the perimeter of the housing portion. Openings formed in the backplate extension flange region provide access for sensors through the display panel inactive area with backlight illumination leakage to the opening blocked by optically dense adhesive.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 7, 2021Publication date: January 12, 2023Applicant: Dell Products L.P.Inventors: Mark A. Schwager, Laurent Andrew Regimbal, HongJi Huang

Publication number: 20220026757Abstract: An information handling system display has an edge-to-edge appearance with a polarizer disposed as an outer layer in a housing perimeter and supported by a stainless steel support structure coupled to an underlying display module that frames the display area and extends to the housing perimeter. Flowable optically clear adhesive disposed between the display module and polarizer provides a planar outer surface relative to a height of the support structure.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 24, 2020Publication date: January 27, 2022Applicant: Dell Products L.P.Inventors: Laurent Andrew Regimbal, Glenn Chiappe
