  • Patent number: 9621817
Abstract: A system for digital imaging in a light deficient environment includes an emitter for providing illumination with electromagnetic pulses. The system includes an image sensor that creates image data from the electromagnetic pulses. The image sensor has a plurality of subsets of differing pixels, where each of the pixels comprises a transfer gate transistor. Each transfer gate transistor in one subset of pixels is electrically connected by a TX signal. The TX signal provides global operation of transfer gate transistor (TX) per subset of pixels. The system includes a memory comprising instructions for controlling the emitter so as to pulse for a plurality of exposures that correspond to the subsets of differing pixels and instructions that coordinate the electromagnetic pulses being emitted during a blanking portion of the image sensor frame period. The system includes a processor that combines a plurality of exposures to expand dynamic range.

  • Patent number: 9509917
Abstract: A digital imaging method for use with an endoscope in ambient light deficient environments is disclosed. In an implementation, the method may include illuminating the environment with pulsed electromagnetic radiation and sensing differing exposures of reflected electromagnetic radiation with a pixel array of an image sensor. The method may further include receiving image data from the pixel array that corresponds to the differing exposures. The method may include creating exposed frames from the image data, where each frame corresponds with a different exposure. The method may further include emitting pulses of electromagnetic radiation during a blanking period. The method may further include creating a display frame from the exposed frames. The method may further include creating a stream of images by sequentially combining display frames taken using the differing exposures to provide increased dynamic range.

  • Patent number: 9191598
Abstract: Aspects describe front-end pixel fixed pattern noise correction in imaging arrays having wide dynamic range. A photosensor of a first pixel in a first row of an array is reset and a first reset level of the first pixel is measured. The array comprises a plurality of pixels arranged in rows and columns. In response to a result of the first reset level, a reset bus is altered. A feed-forward adjustment of the photosensor of the first pixel is performed to substantially remove fixed-pattern noise. An external readout from the photosensor can occur with substantially all the fixed-pattern noise removed. In some aspects, the adjustment is performed by a switched capacitor block.
