  • Publication number: 20230358239
Abstract: A variable mechanical automotive coolant pump includes a rotatable rotor shaft, an impeller wheel which is co-rotatably connected with the rotor shaft, a static guiding cylinder, a control sleeve, and at least one guiding device. The impeller wheel has a discharging radial outside. The control sleeve has a hollow-cylindrical control sleeve body having a radial outside. The control sleeve does not rotate and is guided axially slidable within the static guiding cylinder so as to regulate a flow rate of the variable mechanical automotive coolant pump by closing or opening the discharging radial outside of the impeller wheel. The at least one guiding device guides the radial outside of the control sleeve within the static guiding cylinder.

  • Publication number: 20220099016
Abstract: A switchable mechanical motor vehicle coolant pump includes a rotatable drive shaft, a drive wheel, a coolant pump wheel comprising a radially outer outlet, a control slider, and an actuation system which hydraulically actuates the control slider. The drive wheel and the coolant pump wheel are each connected to the drive shaft. The control slider shifts axially with respect to the coolant pump wheel to at least partially close the radially outer outlet. The actuation system includes pressure chamber(s), an auxiliary pump having an auxiliary pump wheel provided integrally with the coolant pump wheel, and a switchable control valve which controls a pressure level within the pressure chamber(s). The auxiliary pump wheel provides a hydraulic actuation pressure for the pressure chamber(s) and comprises a ring-shaped pumping channel in which pumping vanes are arranged equidistantly along a circumference of the ring-shaped pumping channel so as to define equal pumping chambers therebetween.

  • Publication number: 20180258832
Abstract: A coolant pump for providing a coolant to an engine includes a pump frame, a rotatable rotor shaft, a pulley wheel co-rotatably fixed to the rotor shaft, an axially shiftable ferromagnetic rotatable pump wheel, and an electromagnetic wet friction clutch arrangement. The pump wheel is axially shiftable with respect to the rotor shaft and the pump frame. The clutch arrangement comprises a static electromagnet, a clutch disk co-rotatably supported by the rotor shaft, a first clutch friction surface arranged at the clutch disk and a thereto corresponding second clutch friction surface arranged at the pump wheel, and a separate stop friction surface arranged at the pump wheel and a thereto corresponding static stop friction surface arranged at the static pump frame. The electromagnet, when fully energized, axially attracts the pump wheel so that the separate stop friction surface and the static stop friction surface engage to stop the pump wheel.

  • Patent number: 9689393
Abstract: A coolant pump includes an outlet volute comprising a pivot axis, an impeller pump, a housing, and an outlet valve arrangement. The housing comprises an outlet volute housing defining the outlet volute and comprises a volute housing wall comprising a recess, and a first outlet channel comprising a valve opening. The outlet valve arrangement is disposed in the first outlet channel and comprises a valve body which opens or closes the valve opening. The valve body comprises a circle segment body comprising a proximal surface and a maximum outside radius. The circle segment body is rotated around the pivot axis. The proximal surface is distant from the pivot axis by an offset distance which is at least ¼ of the maximum outside radius. The recess houses the circle segment body in the closed valve position. A lateral distance of the pivot axis to the volute housing wall is approximately equal to the offset distance.

  • Patent number: 9689394
Abstract: A coolant pump includes a rotatable rotor shaft, a pulley wheel which co-rotates with and is supported by the rotor shaft, a pump wheel rotatably supported at the rotor shaft, and an electrically switched wedge-coupled wet friction clutch. The wedge-coupled wet friction clutch comprises a clutch support fixed to the rotor shaft, a clutch ring arranged at a proximal side of the pump wheel, a clutch disk comprising a ferromagnetic element, a static electromagnet which axially pulls the clutch disk to the clutch support into a disengaged position when the static electromagnet is energized, and a wedge coupling mechanism. The wedge coupling mechanism comprises a wedge element and a counter-wedge element which are configured to generate an axial wedge force which axially pushes the clutch disk into an engaged position against the clutch ring when the static electromagnet is not energized and the rotor shaft rotates.
