Abstract: The invention relates to an apparatus for receiving, storing, sharing and transmitting digital medical image data, comprising a processor, a hard drive, and connectivity means for communicating with a local or global network. The processor comprises means for hosting a server supporting receipt, compression, encryption and data integrity check of the medical image data received from medical modalities, storing of the medical image data on the hard drive of the apparatus, providing access to the apparatus' web based administration and management interface and supporting the query and retrieval of medical image data stored in the apparatus from any modality.
