  • Patent number: 6068186
Abstract: An invention is disclosed, which makes it possible to read a large or a small card which have the same contact configuration. A sliding plate is provided for this purpose: it slides between an open and a closed position. When the plate is in the open position, a small card may be inserted into the chamber. In closed position, the plate makes it possible to keep this small card and ensure a sufficient pressure for establishing the electrical contact. The plate has an opening intended to let the connector come through when there is no small card: it may thus be used as a support to a large card.

  • Patent number: 6009315
Abstract: An electronic card reader for portable telephones is disclosed for reading an identification card and a micro-card. The identification card reader has a wall with a card supporting side and positioning lugs. A connector is provided having contact terminals which protrude from the card supporting side through an opening in the wall to contact pins of the identification card or the micro-card. A cover presses the identification card or the micro-card against the card supporting side. The positioning lugs are retracted in the card supporting side when the identification card is over the card supporting side, and protrude beyond the card supporting side when the micro-card is over the card supporting side so as to laterally surround the micro-card.

  • Patent number: 5937359
Abstract: The invention provides an apparatus, for example, a portable telephone, which includes a chip card reader that has a connector which can be brought into contact with the contact pads of an integrated circuit present on a chip card of a first format called full-SIM format, which apparatus further includes a removable casing intended for being fixed in the operating position facing the chip card reader, and finally includes an adapter that makes it possible to insert and read a chip card of a second format called micro-SIM format, charactrized in that the removable casing contains the adapter which has a recess for receiving a chip card of the micro-SIM format, in that the removable casing contains a positioning device for holding the chip card of the micro-SIM format in position in the recess, and in that the recess and the positioning device have a configuration so that the contact pads of the integrated circuit which is present on the micro-SIM card are placed opposite the connector of the chip card reader a

  • Patent number: 5907814
Abstract: An apparatus, such as a portable telephone, is disclosed. The telephone includes a chip card reader having a connector and a adapter which has a full-SIM side and a micro-SIM side. The micro-SIM side has a rail and a stop. Further, the adapter is reversibly and removably located in a recess of the telephone. The full-SIM side of the adapter is visible when a full-SIM chip card is connected to the connector of the chip card reader, and the adapter's micro-SIM side is visible when a micro-SIM chip card is connected to the connector. The rail and said stop are arranged to place contact pads of an integrated circuit present on the micro-SIM chip card opposite the connector of the chip card reader.

  • Patent number: 5831256
Abstract: A portable telephone includes an electronic card reader for reading Micro SIM cards of different formats. The reader has a wall with a card supporting side and a connector whose resilient contact terminals protrude from the supporting side through an opening. For holding a small-format card in the reading position, the wall has a recess for receiving the small-format card while the card is in contact with the contact terminals of the connector, in the lower portion of which recess is accommodated a sheet steel adapter integral with the wall, which an adapter has a clearance in a normal direction to the wall at least equal to the thickness of the small-format card and has a hole opposite the opening.
