  • Patent number: 7032926
Abstract: An inflatable safety arrangement for a safety device in a motor vehicle, especially an in-seat device to prevent “submarining” comprises an inflatable unit formed of at least one pre-formed plastically deformable element which initially defines an inwardly directed recess partially filling a void defined within the interior of the inflatable unit. On actuation of a gas generator the inwardly directed protrusion becomes an outwardly directed protrusion. The inwardly directed protrusion may have two substantially planar walls, one of which carries an outwardly extending projection.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 7, 2003
Date of Patent: April 25, 2006
    Assignee: Forrester Ketley & Co.
    Inventor: Laurent Ruel
  • Patent number: 6752454
Abstract: A vehicle seat has a back-rest (1) and a squab (2), a transverse beam (3) provided at the front of the squab is provided with a chamber (13), at least part of one wall being constituted by a plastically deformable metal sheet (12). The chamber is associated with a gas generator adapted to inflate the chamber (13) with an associated plastic deformation of the sheet. The inflated chamber minimizes the risk of an occupant of the seat “submarining” beneath a safety belt.

Date of Patent: June 22, 2004
    Assignee: Autoliv Development AB
