  • Publication number: 20030166486
Abstract: A fabric conditioning composition comprising a cationic fabric softening compound dispersed in water is found to have surprisingly improved viscosity stability if a stabilising system comprising at least one salt of a multivalent inorganic anion or non-sequestering multivalent organic anion is present. The invention is particularly suitable for use with quaternary ammonium material comprising a compound having two C12-18 alkyl or alkenyl groups connected to the molecule via at least one ester link. Preferably, the mixture comprises sodium chloride and sodium sulphate. Preferably, there is additionally at least one salt of a univalent anion.

  • Publication number: 20030139314
Abstract: An aqueous fabric conditioning composition in the form of an emulsion comprises one or more quaternary ammonium fabric softening materials, one or more oils and an effective amount of a refractive index increasing agent or decreasing agent to provide a composition where the aqueous phase and the oil phase have refractive indices within +/−2% of each other.

  • Publication number: 20030054966
Abstract: A water soluble package comprises a substantially non-aqueous liquid rinse conditioning composition therein, wherein the water soluble package comprises a polymeric film. A process for conditioning fabrics comprises the step of adding to the rinse cycle of a washing operation the water soluble package and rinse conditioning composition therein, allowing or causing the package to break so as to release the contents therefrom and contacting the composition with fabric being laundered. The package is either disposed in the drum at the beginning of the wash cycle, remains intact through the wash cycle and disperses and/or dissolves at the beginning of or during the rinse cycle or is disposed in the rinse compartment of the dispenser drawer or in the drum between the wash and rinse cycles and disperses and/or dissolves immediately.

  • Patent number: 6432911
Abstract: An aqueous fabric conditioning composition comprises a cationic surfactant, an oil, a solvent and is in the form of a water-in-oil micro-emulsion. The cationic surfactant comprises either (a) quaternary ammonium compounds having at least one ester group and being formed from a parent fatty acid having a degree of unsaturation represented by an iodine value of from 20 to 140 or (b) quaternary ammonium compounds having two C8-C28 alkyl or alkenyl chains directly attached to the nitrogen and being formed from a parent fatty acid having a degree of unsaturation represented by an iodine value of from 0 to 20 or (c) mixtures of (a) and (b). The invention also relates to a process for treating fabrics and a method for preparing a fabric treatment composition.
