  • Patent number: 6385789
Abstract: A galley waste disposal system is provided for use with an existing vacuum collection system. The galley waste disposal system includes a basin for receiving galley waste and a discharge valve connected between the basin and a collection tank. The discharge valve is vacuum-operated and has an actuating port. An electrically-operated vacuum control valve is connected between the actuating port and a vacuum source. A flush element is also provided that is actuatable to produce a discharge command. A controller is operably connected to the control valve and is selectively operable in response to the discharge command to place the actuating port in fluid communication with the vacuum source, thereby to open the discharge valve. In addition, the discharge valve, vacuum control valve, and controller may be housed in an enclosure suitable for mounting remotely from the basin.

  • Patent number: 5832784
Abstract: A parking brake control for operating a parking brake cable between a release position and a brake engagement position comprises a mounting plate assembly, an input lever assembly which translates and rotates with respect to the mounting plate assembly, and a sector which is slidably attached to the mounting plate assembly and rotatable in response to movement of the input lever assembly, wherein rotation of the sector towards the brake engagement position produces a tension force on a cable. The parking brake control can further comprise a first rivet extending into a slot in the input lever assembly; preferably the sector rotates around the first rivet. In addition, a second rivet may be attached to the input lever assembly and received by both a cam slot in the mounting plate assembly and a slot in the sector. The parking brake control produces an output tension force on the cable, pulling the cable away from the parking brake to actuate the parking brake.

  • Patent number: 5528956
Abstract: A spring acts on an operating member of a parking brake control and, when the brake is released, not only reduces the flyback energy resulting from the release but also stores such energy for use as a power assist during the next application of the brake. The spring acts on the operating member through a cam which removes the spring force from the operating member when the brake is fully released while progressively amplifying the spring force as the brake is progressively applied.

  • Patent number: 5217094
Abstract: A parking brake control in which a spiral spring is loaded between a sector and a pedal and unwinds to take up slack in the cable of a vehicle parking brake and tension the cable when a locking pin is removed following installation of the control and connection of the cable to the sector. A pawl coacts with the same sector to hold the sector in its brake-applied position and to enable release of the brake by pushing on the pedal. A cam is carried by the pedal and acts against the cable to produce a mechanical advantage which progressively increases as the brake is progressively applied.

  • Patent number: 5050270
Abstract: An automobile trunk lid is mounted for swinging on the automobile body between closed and open positions with respect to the trunk compartment. Each hinge includes a slotted hinge arm attached to the underside of the lid and a slotted body bracket attached to the body adjacent one side of the trunk compartment. A follower on the hinge arm projects into and is adapted to travel along the slot in the body bracket while a follower on the body bracket projects into the slot in the hinge arm. As the lid is opened, the followers and slots coact to first elevate the forward portion of the lid away from the body and then to allow the lid to swing open about an instantaneously changing axis. A spring, a cam and a cable coact to apply a spring-assist to the lid during opening, the cam and cable acting to compensate for the spring rate of the spring as the lid moves and its center of gravity changes in space.
