  • Patent number: 5626297
Abstract: An apparatus produces elongate multi-fiber particles of extremely small size to facilitate substantially complete penetration of high consistency pulp fibers by ozone when exposed thereto. A housing is provided having first and second ends and a substantially smooth interior housing surface. A means is provided for introducing high consistency wood pulp into the housing. A source of ozone gas bleaches the high consistency pulp within the housing. A pin rotor is rotatably mounted within the housing, and includes a plurality of pins, each pin having a pin tip. A means is provided means for limiting the build up of high consistency pulp fiber accretions on the pin tips.

  • Patent number: 4894121
Abstract: A method and apparatus for forming on the outside of a permeable, rotatable drum by feeding a pulp slurry through a mat forming and pressing zone, followed by a mat washing zone. In the mat washing zone, the mat is washed with liquid from the first source and then washed with liquid from a second source.A Washing baffle has a first portion extending from its upstream end partially along the outside surface of the drum and slightly spaced from the outside surface of the drum. This first portion is followed by a second portion extending partially along the outside surface of the drum and spaced further from the outside surface of the drum than the first portion. A valve is provided for controlling the velocity of liquid through a slot into a circumferential space separating the washing baffle from the drum.

  • Patent number: 4435085
Abstract: Pulp and oxygen are mixed by feeding the pulp and also feeding the oxygen to a mixer which has a grooved rotor closely spaced between two grooved discs to provide high intensity mixing zones.

  • Patent number: 4126542
Abstract: A flow comprising solid particles in a fluid suspension under pressure, typically the rejects flow from a separator, is conducted to a vortex flow chamber. In the vortex flow chamber, added liquid flow is caused to whirl and the reject flow containing contaminants is squeezed towards the axis of the vortex flow chamber and accelerated axially. This prevents plugging of a flow control valve connected to the vortex flow chamber outlet.

  • Patent number: 3964962
Abstract: Gaseous reaction apparatus wherein a portion of the supplied gas is discharged from the reaction vessel at a location below the upper level of a therein contained columnar mass of material wherein the gas is discharged into a receiving chamber extending along the outer periphery of the vessel and open to the lower portion of the vessel through an unrestricted opening being free from screens and filters, and such discharged portion of the gas, with or without cooling, is recirculated back into the upper inlet end of the vessel, thereby controlling the temperature in the vessel by removing or redistributing heat therein. Such apparatus is particularly useful in the gas phase treatment of fibrous material such as the bleaching or delignification of lignin-containing cellulose pulp.
