Patent number: 4716502Abstract: A signal light for removable assembly to a bicycle handlebar or the like comprising a cylindrical battery shell of electrically non-conductive construction having a circumferential array of orthogonally spaced axially extending resilient arcuate ribs integrally projecting outwardly of the shell between the shell ends. Such ribs have an outer diameter for resilient press-fit insertion of the shell into a handlebar end, such that the ribs function simultaneously to retain the shell in the handlebar end, to center the shell therewithin, and to adapt to various internal diameter sizes of handlebars. A lamp has a base received into the open outer end of the shell and is retained thereon by a translucent lens which is press-fitted over the shell outer end. An electrically conductive strip extends externally of the shell from an inner end in spring-biased electrical contact with batteries within the shell to an outer end within the shell parallel to but spaced from the lamp base.Type: GrantFiled: November 7, 1986Date of Patent: December 29, 1987Assignee: Freedom Industries, Inc.Inventors: Roger A. Patent number: 4318318Abstract: A cutting tool, preferably in the form of a cutting insert of hard material, having a narrow land area or ledge along the cutting edge, forming a shallow recessed groove promoting the formation of a false cutting tip build-up during use of the cutting tool, the cutting tip build-up resulting from the transfer of material from the chip to the ledge surface. The cutting tool of the invention enhances and favors the formation of a cutting tip build-up by providing the shallow recessed groove with a width which is a function of the cut taken by the cutting tool in a workpiece such that the chip removed from the workpiece during a cutting operation bridges the recessed groove.Type: GrantFiled: July 29, 1980Date of Patent: March 9, 1982Inventor: Lawrence A. Patent number: 4159885Abstract: A cutting tool, preferably in the form of a cutting insert of hard material, having a narrow land area or ledge along the cutting edge, and a top surface recessed below the ledge, the recess being deep enough to cause a continuous chip cut from a workpiece by the cutting edge to naturally flow into the recess without interference such as to promote the formation of a false cutting tip build-up during use of the cutting tool, the cutting tip build-up resulting from the transfer of material from the chip to the ledge surface. The invention further contemplates favoring the formation of cutting tip build-up by forming the ledge with a concave section and, in addition or in the alternative, by providing a plurality of diamond particles embedded in the ledge surface at least at the cutting tip of the tool.Type: GrantFiled: July 5, 1977Date of Patent: July 3, 1979Inventor: Lawrence A. Patent number: RE29631Abstract: A variable speed drive mechanism in which power is transmitted from an input driving disc to an output driven disc through an intermediate member of spherical configuration. The driving and driven discs are supported with their axes of rotation at an angle and offset. The intermediate spherical member is held by gravity or other means in the trough defined between the two inclined discs. A cage member holds and linearly guides the intermediate member .[.and a wick provides lubrication for the intermediate member.].. The radial position of the spherical intermediate member along the faces of the discs determines the drive ratio between the input and output shafts of the mechanism.Type: GrantFiled: April 1, 1976Date of Patent: May 16, 1978Inventor: Lawrence A.
